Alfred Thirdman (アルフレッド＝サーマン Arufureddo Sāman?) is a minor character introduced in Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index. He is the base commander of Grand Arrow Air Force Base.

Hawaii Invasion Arc[]

He first appears shortly after the discovery of mercenaries invading Hawaii and the Kilauean eruption. Here, he discovers that tanker ships and passenger ships were actually disguised to hold landing ships, and are now invading the eight islands of Hawaii. Seeing the reports regarding the volcanic eruption's ash, he is dismayed that he cannot support the troops in Hawaii with air support, as well as anti-ship missiles preventing him from sending out support ships. He tries to contact the Dirty Lance in Texas to use ballistic warheads at high altitude to blow away the volcanic ash, hoping that it would lead the way for them aid Hawaii with aerial units, despite the fears that the Vice-President will just get in the way.[1]
By the end of the invasion, no ballistic missiles were launch from either the Grand Arrow Air Force Base in California or from the Dirty Lance in Texas, possibly due to the efforts of the Vice-President.
