Anime Timeline

The Anime Timeline attempts to reconcile the strange time set-up by the anime adaptation of the Toaru Majutsu no Index universe. Having events widely different from the novels, the anime exists as its own universe separate from the novels and manga, though that doesn't mean elements and characters cannot be reused in their parent mediums, as Toaru Majutsu no Index universe is extremely dynamic to changes. Different from the Unified Story Timeline, the complete Anime Timeline does not list dates unless specifically stated in the show itself. Past events are mentioned only in the episode they appear in and will not have its own section if the date is listed. Because of this, some events, especially those that are outside of the episode order, are simply conjectures on which position of the timeline they are. Audio dramas and videogames are not included, but the Toaru Majutsu to Kagaku no Ensemble which is connected with the animated universe, specifically that of the Toaru Majutsu no Index Movie is included, as its place and canonicity in the universe is concretely given.

This timeline can also be viewed as a guide on how to view the anime adaptation in a chronological manner.

Level Upper Arc

  • An entire week has passed since the events of episode 1.
  • An entire month has passed since Shirai Kuroko and Misaka Mikoto met.

• Railgun Episode 7 – Abilities and Power
  • Events seem to jump in one point in time to another.
• Railgun Episode 8 – Level Upper
  • Most of the story occurs in the same day. Epilogue occurs the next day.
  • Academy City experiences its first apparent power outage during the summer.
• Railgun Episode 9 – Majority Report
  • Events occur in two days.
• Railgun Episode 10 – Silent Majority
  • Seems to occur in two days. The first day has Saten Ruiko and friends experiment with their powers, while in the meantime, Kuroko hunts down Level Upper user-related incidents. The second day has Ruiko lose consciousness. Moreover, all non-flashback related events occur in that second day.
• Railgun Episode 11 – Ms. Kiyama
• Railgun Episode 12 – AIM Burst
• Railgun Episode 13 – I understand that bikinis make eyes wander, but one-pieces bring out curves so they match thin bodies better

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun OVA

• Railgun OVA 1 – Because Misaka-san is Now the Center of Attention
  • Spans an unknown number of days.

Index Arc

• Index Episode 1 – Academy City
  • Events occur in two days. Beginning with Touma meeting Mikoto in A Certain Iron Railway Bridge, and the 2nd power outage Academy City experiences in the summer. Second is the start of summer break, and Touma meets Index.
  • Touma states that the 2nd day is July 19
• Index Episode 2 – Innocentius
  • Events in the night occur during the second day of last episode.
• Index Episode 3 – Necessarius
  • Continues events from the second day of the first episode. A new day begins after Index is healed.
• Index Episode 4 – Perfect Memorization
  • Day continues from the previous episode.
  • After Touma wakes up from being beaten by Kanzaki Kaori, three days have passed.
• Index Episode 5 – Limit
  • Events continue from the current day of episode 4.
• Index Episode 6 – Imagine Breaker
  • Most of the events continue from the day of the previous episode, and ends the very next day.
  • An unknown number of days have passed when Stiyl Magnus visits Aleister Crowley.

Big Spider Arc

• Railgun Episode 15 – Skill-Out
  • Events occur in three days.
• Railgun Episode 16 – Academy City
  • Day continues from the last day of the previous episode. According to Kurozuma Wataru, it has been half a year since his release.
  • Second day has the gang visit Konori Mii's dormitory. Mii relates on how it was two years ago when he was presumably killed in a gang war.
  • Third day has Anti-Skill weed out the Skill-Out problem in the Strange, and Kurozuma Wataru and Hebitani Tsuguo is arrested.

Deep Blood Arc

• Index Episode 7 – Cult of Science
  • Occurs two weeks since the end of the Index Arc.
  • Only one day has passed from this episode until the end of episode 9.
• Index Episode 8 – Ars Magna
• Index Episode 9 – Deep Blood
  • Day continues from episode 7. Touma receives the report from Stiyl the next day.
  • Himegami Aisa receives the Walking Church cross necklace to seal her powers, most likely during the day of her visit to Touma's room.

Poltergeist Arc

• Railgun Episode 17 – Spelling the Summer Holidays
  • Events occur in a span of five days.
  • Fourth day indicates that this story coincides with Toaru Majutsu no Index Episode 07 with Himegami Aisa attempting to order "all" the hamburgers.
  • Fourth day confirms the passing of the Deep Blood Arc with Himegami Aisa wearing the Walking Church.
• Railgun Episode 18 – Cypress Park
  • Prologue occurs during the night, one day,
  • Most of the main story most likely occur in three days.
• Railgun Episode 19 – Midsummer Fesitval
  • Occurs in only one day.
  • Confirms the passing of the Index Arc with Touma unable to recognize Mikoto and the second appearance of Index since episode 17.
• Railgun Episode 20 – Poltergeist
  • Prologue occurs during the night, and transitions to Kazari and her teacher's meeting the next day.
  • The next day, Haruue Erii arrives and moves into the Uiharu Residence, and Kuroko and Kazari goes to a conference regarding Poltergeist. Later that night, they go to the festival.
• Railgun Episode 21 – Voice
  • Starting off from the festival last episode, two days pass by during this episode.
• Railgun Episode 22 – The one who Arrives at the Meaning of God while in the Body of a Mortal
  • Starting off from the last day from the previous episode, two days pass by during this episode.
• Railgun Episode 23 – Right now, what do you see
  • Events of this episode, and most of the next episode occur in only one day.
• Railgun Episode 24 – Dear my Friends
  • Continuing the day from the last episode, most of the episodes events occur in only one day.
  • An unknown number of days have passed from the main story to the epilogue.
  • August 9 is date of the epilogue.
