Blodeuwedd (ブロダイウェズ Burodaiuezu?) is a Transcendent of the Bridge Builders Cabal, introduced in Souyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index.[2][3][1]
Etymology[]
Blodeuwedd (meaning "Flower-Faced" in Welsh, from blodau ("flowers") and gwedd ("face")) is a woman appearing in Celtic Mythology, who is central in Math fab Mathonwy, the last of the Four Branches of the Mabinogi.
Blodeuwedd was made by the magicians Math and Gwydion from flowers of broom, meadowsweet and oak, to be the wife of Lleu Llaw Gyffes, who had been cursed by his mother Arianrhod to never have a human wife. While Lleu was away, she had an affair with Gronw Pebr and plotted her husband's murder with him, tricking Lleu into revealing how he might be killed, as he couldn't be killed normally. After the murder attempt failed and Lleu had recovered with help from Math and Gwydion, she was turned into an owl by Gwydion.
Appearance[]
Blodeuwedd has the appearance of a skinny 16 year old girl with pale skin and blonde hair, done in twintails and double chignons, with a ring of keys around the right hand one.[1]
Blodeuwedd wears an explosion-resistant coat-like suit, made by attaching thick copper armor plates to sturdy cloth, with sleeves that are actually remote-controlled arms.[1] The coat is locked with thick green heart-shaped locks and contains an internal terrarium filled with colorful flowers.[1] The closed coat obscures Blodeuwedd's silhouette, making her looking like a teru-teru bozu or iron maiden, and under it, she just wears a frilly apron.[1]
Personality[]
Blodeuwedd is a narcissist who prioritizes herself, revelling in receiving 'love' from others.[1][4][5] Blodeuwedd's salvation conditions are to save the lonely and unloved, though the Bologna Succubus describes her as an animal who inundates people with condescending love and leaves no room for reprisal, hating her for being more like a succubus than she is.[1]
Background[]
The original Blodeuwedd is a flower goddess or fairy found in Celtic mythology. Described as a impossibly beautiful but clearly artificial woman, she was created from flowers and other plants to be a bride to a god who had been cursed by the goddess Arianrhod to never marry, but betrayed her husband and colluded with a lover to murder him.[1]
The background of the individual who took on the identity of Blodeuwedd as a Transcendent of the Bridge Builders Cabal is currently unknown,[6] but given her chosen persona and salvation conditions, it likely involved a need for or a lack of love towards herself or others.[6]

New Year's Arc[]

Between January 3rd and 4th, Blodeuwedd participated in the ceremony to summon Christian Rosencreutz, together with her fellow Transcendents.[2] At one point near the end of the ceremony, she was blindfolded, with her hands bounded with rope behind her back.[2] After the summoned individual struck down the Transcendents at the ritual site and seemingly killed Alice Anotherbible, Blodeuwedd scattered along with other survivors.[2][7][8][9][1]

On January 6th,[1] after being absent for the battle against "CRC", Blodeuwedd and other scattered survivors opportunistically returned after learning that Alice was alive again.[1] That night, along with Vidhatri and 2nd Saga, she stood against Aradia, Good Old Mary, Mut Thebes and Bologna Succubus on as they were heading to help Kamijou Touma meet with Alice, the three not willing to risk losing their power.[1][10][11] In the ensuing battle, she fought the Bologna Succubus, with whom she shared a mutual emnity, and held an advantage for much of it, being supported by "resonance" with Alice, but was ultimately defeated.[1][10][11][4][5]
Abilities[]
As a Transcendent of the Bridge Builders Cabal, Blodeuwedd is said to be powerful enough to rival the regular magic side on her own under the right circumstances.[12]
Given the cases of the other Transcendents in the cabal,[13][14][15][16] Blodeuwedd likely possesses a seal that she can release in order to manifest her fullest power.[16]
Total Courtship[]
Blodeuwedd is a courtship expert, said to be able to seduce any living creature (including humans, land animals, birds, fish and bugs), using pheromones, colors, cries and dances.[1] Her Total Courtship (トータルコートシップ Tōtarukōtoshippu?) is unleashed by unlocking and opening her coat, exposing the lights, scents and pheromones from its internal terrarium.[1] The strength of the scent and pheromones increases the closer to Blodeuwedd one is, to the extent that it can act as a deadly poison.
Blodeuwedd is capable of manipulating hundreds of thousands of creatures at once, and following her disposition, weaponizes pests, vermin and other hated species (such as black bass, bluegills and other troublemakers in a river environment).[1] These creatures may be small and fairly common on their own, but in the numbers that Blodeuwedd manipulates (with Blodeuwedd noting how there are many environmentally destructive species hated for there being too many of them), they form a giant wave with enough force and mass to potentially break an iron bridge weighing over ten thousand tons.[1][11] Aside from crushing targets with the swarm's weight,[1] the individual creatures in the wave may move at sufficient speed to embed themselves into flesh, with many of Blodeuwedd's preferred creatures spreading germs into the wounds and some devouring flesh.[11]
