The Ceremony of Mo Athair (モ・アサイアの儀 Mo Asaia no Gi?) was a large-scale magical ceremony which Coronzon intended to use in order to cause the breakdown of the world.[1]

Etymology[]

The ceremony was named by Coronzon in reference to its summoner, Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, who had claimed that the name Mathers was derived from 'Mo Athair' (supposedly old Gaelic for 'posthumous one'), 'proof' that he was of proper, noble highland descent and the Count of Glenstrae.[2][3]

The Ceremony of Mo Athair was intended to fulfil Coronzon's innate desire for natural breakdown and dispersion, destroying the current world and all of the 'clogs' obstructing its circulation which have not naturally broken down, preparing the stage for whatever would come next.[4][5][6][7][8]

Sword of State

In the first stage of the ceremony, Coronzon intended to send the world's population into a frenzy and set it against itself like a game of 'old maid', leading them to mutual self-destruction.[7][8] The trigger she intended to use for this was the hijacking of the United Kingdom's magical system from the unstable Curtana Second through the Honours of Scotland.[2][9][10][6]

Queen Britannia

The Queen Britannia

In order for the treasures to be used to their full potential, this had to be done at a point between the centers of the four regions of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Island) - in the middle of the Irish Sea, so Coronzon intended to travel there and activate them aboard the Queen Britannia,[11][10][6] with additional support from the amplifying effects of the ship's temple.[7] Prior to this, a banishing ritual was carried out in order to prepare the temple for the task, removing the influence of the five great elements, the seven planetary forces, the twelve zodiac influences and the ten spheres, with a ceremonial sword and camphor flame.[7] The presence of a full set of Enochian tablets among the temple's symbols meant that a few steps of the ceremony could be skipped.[7] Coronzon also intended to use human magical power for the ignition.[7][12]

In the second stage of the ceremony, while the people of the world were occupied with the visible chaos, Coronzon would make use of her special characteristic as the Great Demon dwelling in the Abyss, which enables her to freely ascend and descend the Sephiroth, in order to reach the Pure World beneath the phases and pass a large amount of power through that rocky core.[7] The ultimate goal was the destruction of the Pure World, which would cause the phases pilled up on top of it to collapse, leaving nothing behind.[7] In this way, it is the opposite of the ceremony from Aleister's Plan which was intended to shatter the phases and leave the core world of physical laws behind.[7]

Background[]

Although Coronzon was unable to carry out the destruction she desired while still bound by her contract with Mathers to lead Aleister to ruin, she likely plotted at least some of the details of the plan while in the position of Archbishop of Necessarius as Lola Stuart.[1]

Preparations, distractions

After freeing herself from her contract with Mathers, Coronzon stole the Honours of Scotland and hijacked the Queen Britannia in order to initiate the Ceremony of Mo Athair.[2][13] At the same time, she launched remote attacks across the world, not just to eliminate any possible threats, but also to influence the populace and stoke chaos for the first stage of the destruction.[14][13]

During the attack on the ship by the British forces, due to the actions of Aleister's and Accelerator's groups, Coronzon faced defeat before reaching the ideal location for the ceremony and attempted to activate the ceremony prematurely.[15] However, the revived recreation of Dion Fortune made use of her fellow Golden Dawn recreations in an original spell which blocked the signal towards Scotland.[16][17][18][19]
