Fiamma of the Right (右方のフィアンマ Uhō no Fianma?) is a member of God's Right Seat and an antagonist of the magic side in the Toaru Majutsu no Index Light Novels. His name is derived from the Italian name for flame, "Fiamma."
Appearance
He is a tall, skinny man with red hair wearing a red suit. He is always seen with a calm expression and a slight smile.
Personality
Among the members of God's Right Seat, he is seen as the highest position, and the other members are shown to be more loyal to him than they are to the Pope. Behind his calm personality hides a manipulative and ambitious person who doesn't hesitate to overstep his bounds past the authority of the Roman Catholic Church, use the entirety of Russian Orthodox Church, and even declare war against Academy City, though his reasons to do so are still unknown.
Chronology
Toaru Majutsu no Index
The leader and center of God's Right Seat, with him stating as long as he's alive, the positions of Acqua, Terra and Vento can be replaced, but if he's gone God's Right Seat as an organization would also be gone beyond salvaging.
Acqua of the Back and the Amakusa Catholic Church
He seeks Touma and Index, the former for his power, which Fiamma considers the Holy Right, and the latter for her knowledge in inaccessible forms of magic. Fiamma also uses his status as the current Pope's mentor to classify Touma as a heretic, thus enabling him to fulfill his purpose to capture Touma. He holds enough power to blow away all of Rome in one blast, but 2/3 of the damage is avoided by the Pope absorbing it to protect the city, resulting in the Pope being hospitalized; however, part of the Vatican was still damaged by the attack.
Carrisa and Curtana Original
He made his way to England, activated the external control of Index's spiritual artifact control, Johann's Pen, during the Magic Civil War and also meets Touma, which leads to the both of them fighting. Using his Holy Right to attack Touma, it is destroyed but suddenly regenerates. According to Touma, Fiamma's Holy Right is very similar to his Imagine Breaker, except the arm is manifested outward.
Fiamma of the Right and the World War III
In Volume 20, he suddenly appears during a meeting between Touma, Lessar, Vento of the Front, and the leader of Elizarina, a country recently separated from Russia, and manages to seize Sasha while fending off the others. During the fight, Vento notices the flaw of Fiamma's power, that it has a limit and reached it while fighting Touma and corners him, but he then uses Index's remote control once more to keep his 3rd arm—even though it disintegrated physically— and leaves with Sasha captured after defeating all of them.
During the fight it turns out that he knew about Touma's memory loss and told Index through a telepathic link while she was forcibly still in her Johann Pen Mode. He then tells Touma to stay alive because he needs his Imagine Breaker for his powers be to complete.
After he summons Archangel Gabriel and the Star of Bethlehem to fix the elemental balance that affects the creation and gains full control of the Holy Right. Knowing Tōma's is aboard of the Star of Bethlehem claims his right hand severing Tōma's right arm and then absorbing the Imagine Breaker onto himself, but then notices that from Tōma's arm is gathering a massive and overwhelming power which pales his in comparison, being swallowed in fear is unable to move but suddenly mutters something to that invisible thing and crushes it with an even greater power regaining at the same time the Imagine Breaker through a new right arm, then he is defeated after Toma points if 'Fiamma of the Right' is really the strongest existence, then there wouldn't be a reason to go around and gather up parts from churches and cathedrals around the world and the power of Fiamma adjusts its strength automatically to match with the difficulty of the enemy, revealing Fiamma in disguise is afraid because himself doesn't even knows if he really has the 'power enough to save the world', there's no way someone who hasn't saved the world already can know if the power to save the world really exists. In differnece to him, Toma has seen with his own eyes, the instant someone's 'world' was saved. With the conviction lost and defeated, he's put on a scape magice device by Touma himself, who despite his own injuries tells Fiamma that he still has a future to change causing a change on his mind. Later on when Fiamma tries to change what he's done is attacked by Aleister Crowley on an ambush which destroys his right arm because Fianma already knew too much, so Aleister have no choice to come kill Fiamma with his own hands. Fiamma unleashes his Holy Right as he can't let Aleister stomp on this world Touma has protected but is defeated and almost killed.
Before leaving Aleister says if Fianma had the right goals, reaching "La persona superiore a Dio" (神上) but tried to comprehend the 'right hand', the Imagine Breaker and "One that cleanses God and exorcises the Devil" (神浄討魔) within the level of Christianity instead the Age of Horus as his format was his mistake.
Afterwards he's found half dead by Silvia along with Ollerus, who picks him up and asks him to tell what knows about the Aeon of Osiris of his and what he saw of the Aeon of Horus Aleister's has.
Abilities
According to him, he holds the symbol of miracles, the Holy Right (聖なる右 Seinaru Migi?), which has the power of the archangel Michael, but he cannot use its full potential as of yet. When his power is used, a mirage- and bird-like claw appears from behind him, which is his main form of attack. However, he has revealed he can now use any symbolism magic that has anything to do with the Right Hand, such as how archangel Michael slayed Lucifer with his right hand, the Son of God heals with his right hand, and one needs to record bibles with their right hand, plus many others. Touma likened Fiamma’s power to having "One-hit KO" in an RPG alongside the other options like "Fight," "Items" and "Magic," thinking that it’s really unfair.
With his Holy Right, he has shown he can do the following:
- The strike that ends everything it touches: this attack destroys everything it touches without any destructive force.
- The strike that reaches everything when swung: this attack delivers itself right next to its target without any speed, thus allowing him to move anywhere at will.
- He can produce a 30–40 km-sized sword made of flame.
