Convictions (信念 Shinnen?) is the 129th chapter of the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun manga series, released on November 27th 2020 in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh.
Synopsis[]
A representative of Zoomanity Corporation approached Kyougoku Ryouta (who is part of Social Rehabilitation Support Hatsuki Corp.)[1] for finalizing a credit line contract. Initially, Kyougoku is eager to engage in talks with the representative, but his tone changes as the Zoomanity representative asks about a particular esper thought of to be dead — Shundan Kimi — as well as other high-level espers in exchange for increasing the loan limit by several times over.
Kyougoku remembers his talk with Aohoshi, now also detained for her involvement in Kimi's group, and how the remorse from forgetting the friends she left behind in the orphanage made her formulate an elaborate plan that will eventually become the Jailbreak Trial. Baffled at the extent of planning she did for such an objective, Kyougoku listens as Aohoshi realizes that every single one of them wanted someone—to Kimi, an esper from outside Academy City; to Tsurigane, her former master; to Raifu, the ideal hero; and to her, the authorities—that can punish them.
In response to the Zoomanity representative, Kyougoku rips apart the contract to pieces, inciting the anger of the other party. There, he emphasizes the importance of the futures of any student, even if they are incarcerated in his own juvenile hall. He then orders a War Armadillo to carry them out of the facility. Iizuka, who accompanies him during the meeting, feels impressed at his conviction, although she admits that it's the only thing about him that impresses her. Kyougoku then looks forlornly at his new designs of a bipedal security robot with his face in it, knowing that it will take long before it would be a reality.
Shortly after, to the surprise of Kyougoku, Iizuka reports that one of their detainees, Tsurigane Saryou, has escaped. Tsurigane's destination is an Iga ninja named Kuruwa, and her plan is to train more so that her master Oumi Shuri can recognize her more. Too startled by her presence to give an answer, Kuruwa is then confronted by several Anti-Skill members, mistaking her for Tsurigane's accomplice. Kuruwa soon makes an escape with Tsurigane, unable to shake off her new companion.
