Hawaii (ハワイ Hawai?) is an island state of the United States of America, located 2000 miles southwest of the mainland in the Pacific Ocean. Made up of volcanic islands, the state is named after the largest island in the archipelago and the name is also used to refer to the Hawaiian Islands as a whole.
The islands were the site of a major incident instigated by Gremlin in the early part of Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index.[1]

The Hawaiian Islands consist of eight main islands and numerous smaller ones, around 130 in total.[2] The island Hawaii is the largest and the namesake for the islands and the state, but the most populous is the third-largest Oahu, site of the state capital Honolulu. There are over 1.4 million residents, with over 3 million people total if temporary visitors are included.[2]
The Hawaii Islands were formed through volcanic activity due to an undersea hotspot, which gradually builds the islands in a successive chain as the Pacific tectonic plate moves over the stationary hotspot. Hawaii's largest active volcano is Kilauea, located on the island of Hawaii.[3][Notes 1] Other notable volcanoes on the island include Hualalai, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea.[3][Notes 1] Hawaiian volcanism is primarily the effusive type, characterized by lava flows, rather than the explosive type, characterized by ash fallout.[4][5]
Background[]
During World War II, a pre-emptive strike by Japan on Hawaii's Pearl Harbor in order to neutralize the US Pacific fleet, precipitated the United States's full entry into the war.

Hawaii was the site of numerous events on November 10th, surrounding a plot by Gremlin, together with the PMC Trident and media queen Olay Blueshake, as well as the efforts by members of the Kamijou Faction, the Dawn-Colored Sunlight, President Roberto Katze and other US forces, to stop them. These included an incident at New Honolulu International Airport, a shooting at Coral Street Shopping Mall, another attack on Pearl Harbor, the Trigger-induced eruption of Kilauea and an ultimately thwarted invasion of Hawaii.
