Heaven Canceller's Hospital

The hospital bathed in a golden dusk.

Heaven Canceller's Hospital is the currently unnamed hospital located in School District 7 of Academy City. It is the hospital Heaven Canceller works at. The hospital is famous for having many prominent characters fall into the hands of its care, specifically that of the Heaven Canceller, especially Kamijou Touma, who often ends up in this hospital when he gets injured.

Touma is brought to the hospital by Stiyl and Kanzaki after he saves Index from losing her memories. Unfortunately, one of the magical feathers caused by the dragon's breath, had caused him to permanently lose his own memories. According to Heaven Canceller, the brain cells in Touma's mind that contained his memories of his past were destroyed. However, Touma told the doctor that his memories still reside in his heart.

Deep Blood Arc

Touma is admitted to the hospital after his right arm was cut off by Aureolus Izzard. Heaven Canceller was able to reconnect his arm just in time. According to the doctor, this was the second time in ten days that he was hospitalized, and he was wondering if Touma simply likes nurses which Touma denies. This causes Touma to think that Heaven Canceller became a doctor for the nurses.

Touma is visited by Stiyl Mangus who tells Touma that he has erased Aureolus Izzard's memories and changed his identity. Afterwards, Touma is visited by both Index and Himegami Aisa. Himegami asks Touma why he saved her, and he tells her that he doesn't need a reason to save people.

Sisters Arc

After Touma defeated Accelerator, Mikoto brings him to the hospital. He is later visited by Misaka 10032 and Misaka Mikoto to thank him for his actions in helping stop the experiment. Misaka 10032 and several other also becomes a patients of Heaven Canceller's in order to slow down their aging process and allow them to have a longer lifespan while the others are sent to cooperative insinuations around the world.

He is later visited by Index who bites him because he worried her. She asked him what he fought for, and he told her that he fought for himself.

Three Stories Arc

Accelerator, Last Order, and Yoshikawa Kikyou, after the events of their portion of the story ends during the arc is taken to the hospital. Here, Heaven Canceller relates to Kikyou on how Accelerator saved her life by using his powers to prevent her blood from leaking, and states that Last Order is being taken care of by a clone. Moreover, he states that he knows of the clones and that he will use them to allow Accelerator to attain at least half of his computational ability as well as some motor skills that have been lost after he was shot.

Kazakiri Hyouka Arc

While Touma is not forced to stay in the hospital, Himegami Aisa and Tsukuyomik Komoe still bring him there so Heaven Canceller to bandage his arm. According to the doctor, Touma's right arm is on the borderline of become a fracture. Himegami and Komoe repeatedly hit Touma on the back of his head for causing so much trouble for the Anti-skill and being so reckless when it "comes to women."

Hyouka and Index also have a deep conversation and say their goodbyes until their next meeting.

Orsola Aquinas Rescue Arc

After Touma defeats Agnese and saves Orsola's life, he is admitted to the hospital again where he is visited by both Kanzaki Kaori and Tsuchimikado Motoharu. After Motoharu teases Kanazaki about paying Touma back and leaving, Touma simply told Kanazaki there is no need, and he wasn't helping out due to politics but for his friends.

Tree Diagram Remnant Arc

Accelerator and Last Order continues their recuperation while being guarded by Yomikawa Aiho. It is also the hospital where Misaka 10032 continues her recovery. While Touma isn't put into the hospital in this arc, he does visit Kuroko and Misaka 10032 with less than favorable results.

Daihasei Festival Arc

Touma along with Himegami Aisa and Fukiyose Seiri are admitted into the hospital due to Orina Thomson's actions.

La Regina del Mare Adriatico Arc

Heaven Canceller cuts Touma's Italy vacation short by forcing him to fly back to Academy City to be admitted into his hospital. Apparently, Misaka had visited the hospital off-screen to see if Touma was there.

Academy City Invasion Arc

Heaven Canceller talks to Aleister one last time.

While Touma was not admitted into the hospital, the hospital was featured somewhat heavily throughout the arc due to Accelerator's conversations with Heaven Canceller. The patients were evacuated into Hospital buses and taken into the basement, and then later protected by the Sisters, though they were later stunted by the activation of Fuse=KAZAKIRI.

Finally, the effects of the invasion, more specifically Aleister Crowley's use of Heaven Canceller's patients such as, Kamijou Touma, Accelerator, Last Order and the clones for his plans has greatly strained the relationship between the two founders of Academy City. Heaven Canceller calls him to give him a piece of his mind, apparently his telephone having a direction connection to the Windowless Building. Here, with Aleister Crowley unyielding in changing his methods, Aleister Crowley severs his ties with the Heaven Canceller, his doctor.

Skil-Out Uprising

The hospital is shown right after Last Order awakes from her slumber, asking where Accelerator is, to which Heaven Canceller states that he will be back soon.

Battle Royale Arc

At the beginning of the arc Heaven Canceller is seeing off Last Order in a Taxi he arranged to take her to back to Yomikawa Aiho's apartment. After she departed he went back inside were Accelerator was waiting to confront him. Canceller greeted him by remarking him about his trip to Avignon to Accelerator's annoyance, he then asks for the blueprint plans to his choker which the doctor did by giving him a USB drive with the plans that he happened to be carrying with him.

DRAGON Arc

While Etzali is visiting Xochitl at Heaven Canceller's Hospital the rest of GROUP arrives to over hear that he had a senpai-kouhai relationship with the Aztec magician who was after his life in Battle Royal. When Tsuchimikado overheard Xochitl calling Etzali "Onii-chan," he comments that Etzali is a lucky guy, having a sister-type girl that's not related to him, and it's unthinkable for him to go and try picking up girls (referring to Etzali falling in love with Mikoto) when he already has Xochitl. Xochitl for her part, looks troubled that Etzali is unwilling to drop his Unabara face and that he calls people from Academy City comrades.

Meanwhile Hamazura Shiage and Kinuhata Saiai were downstairs in the gift shop looking for a gift for Takitsubo Rikou before visiting her upstairs recovering from the effects of the Ability Body Crystal. After a long period of being teased by Saiai, Shiage finally decides on getting a bouquet of flowers before heading upstairs.

Homecoming Arc

Etzali is seen visiting the hospital where Xochitl and Tochtli are recovering. He noticed that from "one moment to the other" surveillance on them was totally dropped for some reason or another. Tochtli jokingly notes that Etzali's presence and constant visits are indeed necessary to them as moral support. While Etzali keeps his Unabara Mitsuki face on at all times due to preference, in the end Xochitl and Tochtli constant banter forced him to temporarily remove his mask else face Xochitl's wrath.

Ichihanaran Festival Arc

Eve of the Festival

The Frog-faced doctor makes his debut in Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index, treating Touma for the first time with injuries from the gunshot wounds he sustained from Anti-Skill. He successfully operates on Touma, and notes that it was miraculous, noting that the Anti-Skill's training stuck with them despite one of them accidentally firing at Touma. He puts Touma in the ICU, and notes that once his condition stabilizes, he will be handed over to Anti-Skill. He later leaves, leaving Touma in his room. It is unknown if Heaven Canceller knew that Touma was conscious, but Touma leaves the hospital, still bloodied and weak from the attack.

Agitate Halation Arc

Kamijou Touma meets up with Shiage and the wheelchair-bound Umidori, all three in bandages. Touma asks for Shiage and Umidori's condition as they were the worst off. Shiage states that he will not be long there, but Umidori's stay will take a while. Umidori states that it is not a problem, and shows off the movements of her arms, which is still somewhat awkward. Touma's gaze falls upon Umidori, and in a strangely odd voice, says that she will kill him if he says anything unnecessary. Shiage then asks how much Touma found out. There, Touma states that Rensa was completely destroyed, as such she won't come back to enact her revenge. Touma then says with a heavy heart that maybe the reason she was destroyed was because she lost control and not because of the Imagine Breaker. A silence pass by as Touma ponders on Rensa's fate and her sacrifice to save Hisako. Touma then tells of the involvement of Yakumi Hisako in the Agitate Halation Project and Fremea being in the center, but that is alone the limit of his knowledge and references the dangerous things that were found in the hospital Hisako works in. Umidori then asks if he is satisfied with that conclusion, stating that the truth will never come to light, as the truly dangerous things are still hidden within. Shiage asks if there are still people out there who will use Agitate Halation. Umidori says that it doesn't have to be anyone directly related to the project. Shiage then falls silent after hearing Umidori's words. Touma replies that he knows what the stakes are, and it is the reason why he retrieved all 40 hypothalami that is used for Rensa, impressing Shiage as Touma did not go straight to the hospital. Here, they saw the grim reminder that not everyone can be saved. Seeing them, Umidori asks if what Touma intends to with them. Touma replies that he will have them put into cold storage until the time technology has advanced enough to find a way for them to be truly saved. As Touma leaves, Shiage calls back to him, asking what he is going to do now. Touma replies that he will do the same thing as always: "No matter how many times I reach game over and no matter how many times I must pathetically hit continue, I will not stop moving forward."

Magic God Othinus Arc

Touma finally ends back in the hospital at the end of an arc. He is in his usual room and after the injuries that he acquired in his journey he is all bandaged up and being applied with blood transfusion and an IV. Touma complains about this predicament of being “pumped” with so much stuff, to which it his heard by the Heaven Canceller upon entering the room. He tells Touma that he should be more worried about his body that was in such a bad state that he would not have survived without taking those kinds of “inhuman” measures, though Touma doesn’t believe him, saying that he is only saying it to scare him. The Heaven Canceller lets him believe what he wants to believe, much to Touma’s surprise, wanting him to confirm to him that he really won’t survive without all the stuff being pumped into him. Seeing that Touma is healthy enough to shout, he then allows people to visit him, then later leaves as Index arrives. The hospital room is where Touma also discovers that Othinus is still alive, though in 15 centimeters and completely powerless despite still having the body closest to that of magic god.

Kamisato Rescue Arc

Following the emergence of the Elements and the abnormal heat wave, the hospital was the site of one of the shelters set up to protect the city residents from danger, designated Hospital. Due to Heaven Canceller's sonic countermeasures, Elements were deterred from attacking the hospital. On December 9th, Useful Spider provided the shelter with a Sphere as the 48 Hours to Restore Order began, though the hospital was less dependent on it than the other shelters and subsequently less affected by the Kamisato Faction's information manipulation. The shelter also received the students injured and displaced from School Garden by Kihara Yuiitsu's attack.

Processor Suit Arc

Late on December 11th, the baby Lilith Crowley was carried to the hospital by delivery drone, however treatment was hampered due to medical computer access to the Bank being down. Early in the morning on December 12th, the hospital was attacked by A. O. Francisca and the Mimetic Predators who were targeting Hamazura Shiage due to the Processor Suit he was wearing, which was also the next generation of the Bank. With the arrival of Touma and Aleister, the battle shifted outside the building, concluding in the parking lot at some point after 3 am.

Coronzon Arc

After managing to return from the 'new world', with Nephthys and Niang-Niang clinging to her, Coronzon was confronted by Aleister Crowley outside the hospital and temporarily sealed using the Banner of the West.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun

Saten Ruiko reunites with Uiharu Kazari in the hospital's roof.

Level Upper Arc

The hospital is where Saten Ruiko is taken after she is overcome by the effects of the Level Upper. The Heaven Canceller also appears and aids Misaka Mikoto and Shirai Kuroko on how the Level Upper works. The roof of the hospital is later used to have a heartfelt reunion with her and Uiharu Kazari.

Poltergeist Arc

Main article: Poltergeist Arc

Heaven Canceller discovers the fate of Harumi's students, which reminds him of Kihara Gensei's experiments on the Crystallized Esper Essence, and decides to bail out Kiyama Harumi from her imprisonment, in order for her to help out on discovering a way to bring them out of their unconsciousness. Heaven Canceller manages to track down every child and put them inside the hospital where he works in, and with his resources, Harumi is slowly able to develop a program to awaken them, though every time she comes close, a RSPK Syndrome, and causes earthquakes in the city. Misaka Mikoto's personal investigation leads her to Harumi who then takes her to the hospital, where Heaven Canceller awaits and explains his reasons for bringing Harumi and the children there, as well as his past with Kihara Gensei. However, Therestina manages to track them down, and with the proper warrant, takes the children away from Harumi, with the Heaven Canceller unable to do anything.

After learning Therestina's true goals and fails in her attempt to stop her she is brought by Kongou Mitsuko to the hospital after preventing her being captured by MAR. Mikoto awakens later and finds herself in room when she regains consciousness where Ruiko, Kuroko and Uiharu are beside her. Outside the room, Heaven Canceller endures Mitsuko's endless talking about Mikoto owing her life to her. Despite her condition, Mikoto tries to stand up and insists that she is responsible for the Child Errors that she handed over to the wrong person, but Saten stops her. She reminds Mikoto that she has friends to help her. Also Saten proceeds to reconcile Uiharu and Kuroko, who were in bad terms recently. Also, Mikoto manages to say her thanks to Mitsuko as well.

The students of Kiyama Harumi are later taken back there for recuperation, specifically Edasaki Banri.

Sisters Arc

Main article: Sisters Arc

While Mikoto and company visit Edasaki Banri they meet Yomikawa Aiho and Tessou Tsuzuri, who are there to watch over a particular Pyrokinesist in his road to recovery. Later things become intense in the hospital when two thugs manage to infiltrate the hospital and steal the patient that is on high alert by Anti-Skill. The three thugs, using Haruue Erii as a hostage head to the rooftop, while Tsuzuri and Aiho feel helpless as the risk of a casualty becomes a factor. Mikoto and Saten go to rescue her and they soon go to the rooftop of the hospital. After trying to flee by helicopter they find it is being pinned by magnetic force, they toss away their hostage Erii in an attempt to lose Mikoto. Fortunately, Ruiko manages to catch Erii with enough time for Kuroko to bring both of them to safety.

The next day, Mikoto shows up, although Touma was asleep when she arrived. For a moment, she remarks about how crazy Touma was in leaping straight into that fight. A bit startled by Touma waking up, Mikoto decides to go straight to the point and hands over the expensive cookies she bought before heading to visit him. Touma, however, prefers homemade cookies instead, expecting anyone would do the same thing. Mikoto flies into a rage, causing sparks to fly around Touma's hospital room.

After that rather frightening development, Touma mentions to Mikoto that one of her "sisters" had visited him the night before, and relays the news about the cancellation of the Level 6 Shift Project. Although she has caught wind of this news, she still puts herself to blame for everything that had happened. Touma points out that it was her who was responsible for the existence of her clones, but he considers it a good thing, as their existence allowed them to experience things a human being feels. After the visit Mikoto heads to the courtyard where she stumbles upon Misaka 10032, who is reunited with her cat and is bandaged due to her injuries. Fortunately, Misaka 10032's wounds were not as serious as that of Touma's, as 10032 claims herself. Though during the conversation 10032 gets distracted over the most trivial things like playing on a swing set nearby. To make things worse for Mikoto, she was mistaken for 10032's younger sister just because she owns Gekota merchandise. 10032 seems interested in making fun of Mikoto in front of the two children they saw in the playground, but she actually means good things for Mikoto, who just risked her life to saving her younger sister. Touma leaves the hospital soon after because he does not want to rank up the hospital bills any more than he has to.

Silent Party Arc

Prior to the start of the arc's storyline proper, Mikoto meets Heaven Canceller again regarding her Sisters. Here, he gives Mikoto the grim news that since the Sisters were supposed to be killed, their bodies are quickly deteriorating and not have much time to live, much to Mikoto's horror. However, Heaven Canceller offers her news that they are being sent out abroad for adjustments to their bodies to allow them to live longer.

The Heaven Canceller gets a major supporting role during the arc. He first appears in the hospital after Febrie is transferred from Mizuho Medical Institute, and discovers that she is an artificial human. He tells Mikoto of this and divulges to her Febrie's apparent relation with the dark side of Academy City, hearing of rumors of a group that attempted to make someone like Febrie many ages ago. He is later visted by Saten Ruiko asking her on a way to reproduce the poison neutralizer, the lollipop, that Febrie requires to survive, though his reply doesn't leave Ruiko with much confidence.

When Mikoto visits her again, he informs her of his analysis of the mysterious hair that was given to him by them. Here, he states that it is the same as Febrie but is different from her, which Mikoto suspects to be from Febrie's older sister. Heaven Canceller bears bad news to Mikoto, stating that at the rate that Febrie is eating the lollipops, she'll deplete at around 72 hours. Mikoto is horrified and hurries to find the group behind Febrie even though she has no clue where to start. Heaven Canceller calls her out on this, and tells her that if she needs information from the dark side of Academy City, she needs to speak to someone who is part of it. Using his influence, he arranges a meeting between her and the incarcerated Therestina Kihara Lifeline.

Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator

Necromancer Arc

The hospital acts as Accelerator and Last Order’s home during their time being hospitalized there. The morgue later gets destroyed during DA’s attempts on destroying Hitokawa Hasami’s body, and they later cause a ruckus when they destroy a wall to escape.

Toaru Majutsu no Index Light Novel Volume SS2

During the fourth Friday of August, Heaven Canceller was having the Sisters that remained (Misaka 10032, Misaka 13577, Misaka 10039, Misaka 19090, and several unidentified Sisters) in Academy City together in the waiting room for the clinical research area of his hospital in. While there the clones began looking through magazines where they begin debating the effectiveness of the horoscopes for themselves from not having birth dates and what would be a suitable replacement. This changes when #10032 discovers a blood type horoscope. As this scene devolves into an all out brawl between the Misaka's Heaven Canceller and a nurse where he explains that he set this up so it could lead to the Sisters growing individual personalities.
