HsF-00

The HsF-00 is a giant supersonic fighter plane first deployed by Academy City during World War III.

Appearance

The HsF-00 is a giant supersonic fighter plane measuring about 80m in length. Because it uses the frame of the HsB-02, it's similar in shape to the stealth bomber.

Principles

Technology

The HsF-00 is a supersonic fighter plane that can fly at a top speed of over 7,000 km/h and can perform highly unconventional flight maneuvers such as flying sideways or spinning like a top. As these maneuvers are very dangerous to the pilot because of the inertial Gs, they are frozen at -70 degrees Celsius and their vital organs are connected to machines to preserve life. The computation abilities of the pilots are also enhanced by machines (similar to Accelerator) to compensate for the extreme temperatures. Some of the methods used to gather the information from the pilot's brain in this control method are the distribution of blood in the brain, the amount of chemicals secreted, the flow of electronic signals and the monitoring of the active regions of the brain with sonar.

The HsF-00 uses the frictional heat on the armor surface as energy. In other words, it gets more efficient the faster it goes. That can reduce its consumption of fuel by up to 90%. It can also be resupplied in the middle of a high-speed flight by smaller Academy City aircraft used as special mid-air refueling craft.

Weapons

The HsF-00 is armed with machine guns capable of tearing through Russia's fighter planes, air-to-air missiles capable of taking much sharper turns than the Russian ones while chasing their targets and about 10 lasers. The lasers can be deployed from the main aircraft as some kind of independent kite connected to the HsF-00 through a thin wire to shoot the enemy from multiple directions at once. It can also use white-phosphorus based bombs.

During World War III, Academy City used 10 HsF-00s and several smaller mid-air refueling craft to maintain air superiority over the Sea of Japan and defeat the Russian fighters sent to attack them.

During Gremlin invasion of Tokyo, Academy City mounted an attack on Gremlin using their supersonic fighters. Here, they were intercepted by Freyja's Hræsvelgr, and did battle against them.

Trivia

• Going by the patterns for Academy City's weapon naming schemes, HsF likely stands for Hard Science Fighter.
• Although the HsB-02 which its frame was based off appeared in the anime adaptation, the HsF-00s were excluded from the anime's brief glimpse of the dogfight over the Sea of Japan.
