Ibotanokikouji Kaede (
Etymology[]
A part of Kaede's surname, "Ibotanoki" (女貞木), is named after Ligustrum obtusifolium, a species of privet, native to Japan, Korea and northeastern China.
Appearance[]
Ibotanokikouji is a curvy young girl who has fluffy blonde hair with a few decorative braids.[3][4][5][6] As a Tokiwadai student, she wears the school's uniform.[3][4]

Ibotanokikouji is a bloodthirsty and cruel sadist who express an abnormal desire to decorate herself with the deaths of other people and sleep in a blanket of their misfortune.[3] She shows little concern for the safety of the Colosseum's participants and only seeks to profit off of their deaths.[3] Despite this, she displays a refined, soft-spoken demeanor befitting her status as an ojousama of Tokiwadai. She is quite confident and often mocks or looks down on her opponents, even willing to make light of Mugino Shizuri the #4 Level 5.[7][8] She is also brazen enough to claim the identity of the #6 Level 5 and has no qualms with using it as she pleases.[7][4]
Due to her sheltered and wealthy upbringing, Ibotanokikouji is quite bored with her upper class lifestyle and desires to experience some excitement and freedom to distract herself from her oppressive environment.[7][1] In pursuit of such sensation, she regularly engages in criminal activity not out of necessity but rather for the thrill it offers.[4][7] Ibotanokikouji claims her privileged background has forced her into an unusual state where something inside of her is distorted.[7] She is afraid of being cut off from the world at large like Urashima Tarou and thus seeks constant engagement with the Dark Side of Academy City in order to always be at the leading edge of it.[4] She compares this feeling to an old luxury watch that is out of sync and desires to put the clock's hand back in their proper place.[4][7]
According to Mugino's analysis, Kaede's obsession with earning money without her parents' assistance is probably part of a stereotypical rebellious phase.[1] She behaves in a rather affectionate and intimate manner with her teammates, especially Inoue and Hiyoko[3][8][4] and is generally cordial with her classmates.[4]
