An Inquisitioner (
Principles[]
The duty of an Inquisitioner is to suppress heresy. They extract information through the use of torture. Those who cannot hide their insecurities are hypnotized or forced to drink potions, as so they can interrogate people under a complete mind.[1]
Although not unique to magic in nature, the Inquisitioner has the ability to shut-off the "contamination" of a grimoire inside a person's brain. They cannot remove the poison that the grimoire has already infected from the brain, even after five years of baptism. Furthermore, they are forced to sew their eyes shut in order for them to not get contaminated in the process.[2]
Background[]
The history on how Inquisitioners came to be is not wholly clear. According to Index, since Great Britain is a magical country, the Anglican Church formed witch hunts, heretic hunts, and inquisitions.[2] In the real world, the inquisition was a group of decentralized institutions within the justice system of the Roman Catholic Church whose aim was to "fight against heretics".
Although, not officially stated, it can be presumed that the Roman Catholic Church in the Toaru Majutsu world also practiced Inquisitions, as they also commit holy trials.[3]
