The Kamisato Faction (上里勢力 Kamisato Seiryoku?) is a group centered around Kamisato Kakeru, similar yet different to the Kamijou Faction centered around Kamijou Touma.[1]
Principles[]
The Kamisato Faction is similar to the Kamijou Faction in that it is an unofficial group made up of individuals from Magic, Science and Normal sides, largely female, and centered around a high school boy with a unique power in their right hand, in this case Kamisato Kakeru, now the bearer of the World Rejecter, who helped them in the past.[2]
However, unlike the Kamijou Faction, who are for the most part independent of Touma and living their own daily lives, the Kamisato Faction are quite dependent on Kakeru, following him, clinging to him and dragging him around with them.[2] Readily offering their power to aid him and following him into battle, they are also more coordinated than the Kamijou Faction usually are.[2] Though coordinated, its members are likely to break formation if their core, Kakeru, is in trouble.[3]
Though Kakeru willingly makes use of the girls' abilities and lets them drag him around, he believes that this gathering of girls, their behavior towards him and their abnormal natures, shouldn't logically happen, especially to a 'normal high school boy' such as himself. He believes that their actions are because of the power that has been forced on him and has somehow twisted them. As such, he dislikes the World Rejecter and hates the Magic Gods whose unconscious desires and wishes created it, considering them responsible for this situation.[2]
The members of the Kamisato Faction, having been accepted by Kakeru and lacking conflicting desires, are not affected by World Rejecter's exiling ability.[4]
Background[]
The exact time and circumstances in which faction was formed and grew are not fully known, however it is known that the Kamisato Faction was formed by girls who were saved by Kamisato Kakeru during various incidents, likely in November and early December, and subsequently gathered around him.[2]
Chronology[]
Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index[]
World Rejecter Arc[]
- Main article: World Rejecter Arc
On December 3rd, the Kamisato Faction gathered in Academy City, as Kamisato Kakeru went after the Magic Gods he deemed the source of his problems.[5] After he came into contact with Patricia Birdway as he was going after Nephthys, who had sought refuge with Kamijou Touma, and convinced her to let him help her, the faction assembled and moved to help their boss accomplish this goal.[6] The assembled faction were present for his initial attempt at negotiation with Touma[7][2] and the subsequent attack on the Kamijou Residence.[3] Once Sample Shoggoth was dealt with and Patricia saved by Nephthys's sacrifice, the faction moved aside as the two boys fought each other.[8]
Salome Arc[]
- Main article: Salome Arc
On December 4th, as Kakeru transferred to the school which Touma was going to following the damage done to his school the day before, the faction was alerted by Fran to Salome's release and arrival in Academy City.[9]
On December 5th, when Touma was betrayed by Kakeru after having agreed to cooperate in order to create a video to lure Salome and stop her targeting the Kamijou Faction, the Kamisato Faction ganged up on him.[10] They were thwarted when Salome herself interrupted them, having brought Accelerator with her.[11] That night, the faction was present when Kakeru planned to face Touma at the school.[12] When Kihara Yuiitsu stole Kakeru's hand and the World Rejecter, the girls offered up their weapons to Salome in order to increase her power so she could fight Yuiitsu.[13][14][4]
Element Arc[]
- Main article: Element Arc
Following the initial battle with Yuiitsu, the faction went underground as they prepared to recover their leader's hand. After encountering the Elements released by Yuiitsu to lure them out, the Kamisato Faction discovered their activity was limited at high temperatures and Fran caused an intense heat wave in the city to slow them down. During the heat wave, the faction occupied the White Springs Shopping Center while seeking out Yuiitsu and preparing their counterattack.[15][16] They eventually determined her likely hiding place beneath the Windowless Building.[17]
In the early hours of December 9th, the Kamisato Faction, with Kamijou Touma in tow, made their way from the shopping mall to the Windowless Building, fighting the Elements along the way.[18][19] Entering the space under the Windowless Building, they faced off against Yuiitsu, who was armed with an Anti-Art Attachment constructed from the Elements.[20] The group managed to overcome Yuiitsu, but her final trap forced Kakeru to use the World Rejecter with conflicting desires, exiling himself in the process.[21] Afterwards, Yuuitsu regained the World Rejecter and used the possibility of a way of recovering Kakeru, as well as the risk of losing it with her death, in order to force the Kamisato Faction to do her bidding and ordered them to kill Touma. The girls reluctantly complied, with the exception of Fran. [22]
Kamisato Rescue Arc[]
- Main article: Kamisato Rescue Arc
Throughout December 9th and 10th, the Kamisato Faction continued to hunt for Touma and Fran, as well as Luca after she was persuaded to join them, following Yuiitsu's orders in order to preserve what they saw as the last way of getting Kamisato Kakeru back, while attempting to thwart Touma's group's efforts out of fear that they would destroy that hope in the process.[23][24][25][26] When Luca and Fran finally succeeded in recovering him, the girls immediately turned on Yuiitsu, taking back the hand with World Rejecter.[26][27]

Trivia[]
- All of the girls from the Kamisato Faction whose character designs have been revealed so far (Claire, Ellen and Elza) were designed using the concept of girls who are "twisted in a galge-ish way".[37]
- Several members of the Kamisato Faction who have yet to be fully described and identified have names linked to figures in religion and mythology:
- Eve is the name of the first woman in Abrahamic religions like Christianity.
- Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom.
- Maive is an Anglicized variant of the name Medb, that of a queen of Connacht in Irish mythology.
- Laika is the name of a Soviet space dog, the first animal to orbit the Earth in Sputnik 2.
- Kamachi Kazuma has mentioned that he tried to use a naming system he hadn't used in the series before for the Kamisato Faction, though he thought he might have gone a bit overboard. He also remarked on how baby name dictionaries he's read recommend even crazier names as though it's normal.[38]
