Kihara Hasuu (木原端数, Kihara Hasuu^?) is a character introduced in Souyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index. He is a member of Kihara Family.

Hasuu's specialist field is android research, and his skill in that field can be seen through his creation of Ladybird.

Hasuu is proficient in hacking and dealing with computer networks, having apparently been involved in building the foundations of the internet, making use of floppy disk-based hardware and emphasizing the value of a single byte in his work. Hasuu also possesses nanodevices known as Parasite Hardware (信号寄生（パラサイトハードウェア）, Shingou Kisei (Parasaitohaadowea)^?, lit. "Signal Parasite"). Poured into a device in the form of a fine powder, the nanodevices directly attach to signals travelling through fiber optic cables in order to move around through a network, being of such miniscule size that the minute amount of force exerted by the light can push and carry them. Due to their nature, they cannot be detected by antivirus software, which are searching for malicious software rather than hardware, and can pass right through their defenses. Although likely not enough to bring down all online services on a network, a full inspection of all hardware with an electronic microscope would be necessary to determine otherwise (with a program auto-search being insufficient), an extremely difficult and time-consuming process.

Hasuu designed some of the equipment which was given to Anti-Skill Aggressors.

Although it wasn't his specialty, Hasuu was able to analyze and reverse-engineer Drencher Kihara Repatri's artificial ghost technology, allowing him to develop a countermeasure to Frillsand #G in the shape of a pinhole camera, forcing her into contact and conflict with the Vanishing Tunnel and cause a malfunction in the artificial ghost, and also utilize the underlying processes himself to persist after his initial death.

Taboo

Having reverse-engineered Drencher Kihara Repatri's artificial ghost technology before his death, Hasuu applied it in order to persist as an artificial ghost after his death in the Vanishing Tunnel on December 25th. His reproduced structure was based on that of Frillsand #G, a collection of electrical energy produced by High Voltage Cutting, however he omitted many of Frillsand #G's more potent abilities (such as harming anyone who looks at her), in order to mitigate incompatibility with the Vanishing Tunnel and usurp control over Academy City's Greatest Taboo.

While he was able to be supported by the Taboo and the 'civilization battery' of High Voltage Cutting, Hasuu did not have full control over his state, and would have apparently released any uncontrollable burst of electricity if he had attempted to leave the Vanishing Tunnel, frying his experimental equipment in the process. Hasuu had considered overcoming this by finding a way to link himself to the earth's core through the dynamo theory of the magnetosphere and magmatic geomagnetism, but he never got the opportunity to attempt it before his ultimate destruction. Also, while his form was not susceptible to Imagine Breaker and would electrically damage on touch, his electrical nature also rendered him susceptible to corresponding weaknesses such as electromagnetic pulses, and it apparently had an upper limit before it would be physically disrupted.

Unlike Frillsand #G, Hasuu was able to touch physical objects to an extent and wielded a chainsaw as a weapon during the battle on December 29th, supplemented by carbon extracted from materials within the Vanishing Tunnel. By manipulating the malfunctions brought about by the Taboo, which could affect the place as well as ghosts, Hasuu was able to alter and control the space's terrain and its materials to a degree, such as altering concrete ground so an opponent would step through it and get their foot stuck. His primary usage of this was to extract carbon from non-living objects within the Taboo, using it to scatter sparks from his chainsaw in a manner similar to struck flint, and to weaken objects and structures so that they would be cut through easily and collapse. The extraction of carbon from the ground was apparently even capable of releasing stored seismic energy and causing tremors.
