Kuruwa (郭, Kuruwa^?) is a side character of Toaru Majutsu no Index. A self-proclaimed descendant of ninjas, she followed Hattori Hanzou to Academy City in an attempt to create a ninja troop that is "large, virtuous and high-class", though this went against Hanzou's belief on what ninjas should be like. She therefore challenged Hanzou in order to get him to accept her views, but he defeated her.

Appearance

Kuruwa has black hair with some brown around the bangs with ornate hairpins of various colors with beads in them. She has a lace glove on one arm and glittering nail art on both hands. She wears a type of sandals with thin straps stretched up to around her knees, along with a piece of metal shackle around one ankle.

She wears bright yellow mini-yukata and her dazzling thighs were completely bared and the left arm was sleeveless up to the shoulder for some reason. The wide obi was made of a transparent material and the yukata itself bared her midriff to match. She had two thin leather belts wrapped around over the obi and, on top of all that, she used a long chain as a decoration.

Volume SS2

Kuruwa's ninja technique.

She firstly appears before Hamazura Shiage continuing her search for Hanzou that she had been at lest for a week with Hanzou avoiding her sense then. Hamazura then made a joke about Hanzou's family name and the implication of him being descended from the original Hattori Hanzou, Kuruwa then decides that he needs to be eliminated and pulls out a handgun. Hamazura then comments if it is right for a ninja to wield a gun and goes on about expecting to see a ninja technique to which she acquiesces to and procedures to strip in front of him. She then takes advantage of him covering his eyes to knock him out.

She also had a list of all the 'gemstones', and planned to create a elite ninja troop using them. Though it is unknown where she obtained the list, Hanzou remarked it is likely someone leaked the list to her and was trying to manipulate her from the shadows.

Kuruwa was protecting Fremea from the Freshmen alongside Shiage.

Abilities

Along with her belief on how ninjas should be viewed as, her choice of weaponry runs along with it. She once "threatened" Shiage, when he voiced how Hanzo would be from the same ancient ninja clan, with a handgun. When she directed Shiage and Hanzo to cabinet with weapons in New Testament series, it was filled with automatic weapons, as well as some weapons from the battlefield of World War III.

Design evolution

Kuruwa's design remains relatively unchanged, with little things modified for her final design. Haimura decided that she should wear a modern interpretation of a period piece that is obviously historically inaccurate.
