Los Angeles (ロサンゼルス Rosanzerusu?), LA for short, is the second largest city in the United States of America.[1][2]
Etymology[]
The name Los Angeles comes from the Spanish language and it means "The Angels".
Principles[]
Los Angeles is the largest city on the west coast,[3] and the second largest city in the USA.[1][2] In its broadest sense, Los Angeles is a collection of several large cities,[1][4] with the massive connected metropolitan area combining more than ten cities,[1] (also) known as Greater Los Angeles. Besides the main city of Los Angeles, this area also includes the movie town of Hollywood,[2] Anaheim,[2][5] and Long Beach,[5][6] among others. The size and development of Los Angeles means that drinking water has to be piped to the city from 375km away across the desert.[1][4]
The official population of Los Angeles is around 15 million,[2][Notes 1] though temporary visitors like travelers and people that government can't track, including the homeless and illegal immigrants, add similar numbers on top of that,[2] bringing the total up to around 30 million.[1][2]
The US opposition leader's son, daughter-in-law and first grandchild apparently live in LA.[7]
The global food chain Red Town is apparently based in Los Angeles.[8][9]

The Anti-Academy City riot occurred in west coast cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco. In Los Angeles, one side of a three-lane highway was completely filled with people. They were burning Academy City posters they had made and were ripping Academy City banners to shreds.[10]

Early on December 26th, Academy City and the Anglican Church had located the headquarters of R&C Occultics in downtown LA and had launched a joint counterattack, Operation Overlord Revenge, to destroy them, with permission from the US government. In response, R&C Occultics agent Citrinitas (actually Vice President Darris Hewlane, who had betrayed and intended to usurp President Roberto Katze) used his magic in conjunction with the meteorological control provided by the Logistic Hornets to make the joint task force and the city's entire population disappear, engulfing the city in a massive sandstorm and trapping the people in the sand as it swallowed them, and dropping temperatures around the city to -20 degrees.[1][2][11][12][5][13]
A little while after contact was lost with LA, ISP worker Harvas Spring arrived in the frozen and deserted city, having been called out from his home in Nevada over 300km away to inspect his company's communications infrastructure, and soon fell victim to Citrinitas just as the rest of the city's population had.[1] A small group consisting of Stiyl Magnus, Kanzaki Kaori, Index, Kamijou Touma and Othinus were subsequently landed at Los Angeles International Airport by a Sky Bus 550, which promptly made a rapid takeoff to keep its crew safe. During their initial investigations in the city, while avoiding remote attacks from Citrinitas, they discovered and followed clues left by Melzabeth Grocery, finding her daughter Helcalia whom she had safely hidden in a locker at the diner Cheap Party and was the sole survivor to avoid disappearing.[14]
Around 7AM, Touma and Index remained in the diner with Helcalia while Stiyl and Kanzaki went out on a scouting mission.[15] When a battle near R&C Occultics HQ resulted in Kanzaki disappearing into the sand after being caught in a tornado generated by a Logistic Hornet, the involvement of Space Engage's technology and the raised possibility of Melzabeth being an enemy led to Helcalia running away.[15] Touma caught up with her at Union Station and was able to convince her of her mother's innocence, but an altercation with an unconvinced Stiyl led to Touma being shot and taking a fall.[15] Having survived, Touma decided to pursue leads separately with Othinus, eventually heading to Long Beach in a journey taking from late morning to after sunset, while Stiyl took Helcalia and relocated to a small store in the city, with Index preventing him from causing her any harm until an examination of evidence proved him wrong.[16]
After Kamijou Touma and Othinus had visited Space Engage's mobile base in Long Beach, Citrinitas attacked them as he acted to frame the disappeared Melzabeth for his crimes, hijacking the Five Overs that the Academy City force had brought with them. With the Sisters intervening in order to support Touma,[16] fighting the Five Overs while Touma fought Citrinitas.[17] A short while into the battles at Long Beach, Citrinitas called upon the Logistic Hornet to generate another city-wide sandstorm.[17] Touma was able to escape being swallowed up by taking shelter in the USS Iowa Museum. Citrinitas followed and breached the ship, but Stiyl was able to use a skyscraper-scale Innocentius to disrupt the weather control and collapse the sandstorm.[17]
Following Citrinitas's defeat, with his magic and the Logistic Hornets being neutralized, the population of LA was released from the sand and the abnormal weather conditions in the city abated.[18][19][20] The traitorous Vice President was taken into custody,[20] while the executives at R&C Occultics HQ were killed by Aleister Crowley ahead of the released joint task force.[20] Renewed activity in the city in the aftermath of the rescue continued into the night, with stores kept open later than usual.[20]
