Marie Spearhead (メアリエ=スピアヘッド Mearie Supiaheddo?) is a Witch of the Anglican Church, and operates under the command of Stiyl Magnus. She makes her debut in Toaru Majutsu no Index Movie: Miracle of Endymion with two others, Mallybath Blackball, and Jane Elves.

AppearanceEdit

Marie is the most mature in appearance of the three, and looks the most like the stereotypical witch. With long wavy blond hair, which covers the left side of her eye, she wears a pointed witch's hat with a ribbon around its base. Her dress exposes some of her cleavage. She also carries around a broom with a cat charm attached to it.

She wears white stockings, and like Jane Elves wears court shoes, but with ankle straps, as well as white evening gloves. Like all the girls, she wears the Cross of St. George on her person.

PersonalityEdit

Little is known about her, but Marie seems to be the leader of the three girls,[1][2] and with that carries the demeanor of one. She is shown to be serious in her missions like everyone else, but has a more playful side, as exemplified by the fact that she was the one who was willing to wear a waitress or cafe maid uniform to sneak up on Arisa.[3]

BackgroundEdit

She calls Stiyl as teacher not out of respect, like all the others, but because she is making fun of him. She and the others taught themselves magic but got stuck in their learning. There, they plotted to add rune magic to their abilities to solve their problem,[4] they most likely approached Stiyl for this reason.

Marie Spearhead, with Mallybath Blackball and Jane Elves, monitor Arisa.

She and the others first appear monitoring Meigo Arisa while she is with Kamijou Touma and Index in the batting cages.[1] She is the first one to attack them, but her water magic is quickly dispatched by Touma's Imagine Breaker, and later, is dragged into the water by Index's Spell Intercept. Despite their coordinated attack, they are unable to contend against the combined power and Touma and Index.[5][6]

She is later rescued by Stiyl from the water, chastising them for attacking. They later aid Stiyl against the arrival of the Black Crow Unit or the Civil Affairs Resolution Mediation Unit commanded by Shutaura Sequenzia. They are utterly no match for them, however, and are forced to retreat after Kanzaki Kaori demands them to.[5][6]

Later, Marie disguised as a cafe maid kidnaps Arisa alongside her companions, disabling Index by freezing her hands and mouth, and getting away by car along with Stiyl. Here, Marie is shown as being a good driver as the are being are pursued by Shutaura and her men. Though Stiyl manages to fend off most of their pursuers Shutaura overturns their car, making everyone inside fall unconscious, and prepares to re-capture Arisa. But Touma appears on the scene with some help from his teacher, Komoe tracking their movement by GPS. Touma talks with Shutaura, trying to reason with her, but she doesn't listen, and releases explosives to destroy him, Stiyl and the girls. Stiyl protects the girls while Touma is injured from the explosion.[6]

Marie, and the others along with Stiyl prepare for their final mission, to stop Ladylee's plans even if they have to kill Arisa. As they infiltrate the Endymion, the are later contacted by Tsuchimikado Motoharu, telling him of the explosive bolts of the Endymion. With that Stiyl and the girls acquiesces to his new plan. They fight off the automated security system, which injures Stiyl in the progress. When they reach the energy pillar they are confronted by one of Ladylee's henchmen, but Stiyl quickly takes care of the situation with Innocentius destroying the pillar. With its destruction, Stiyl grabs the girls and make a quick getaway. Marie's last seen with a recuperating Stiyl along with Mallybath and Jane.[6]

AbilitiesEdit

MaryeSpearhead spell

Marie begins her spell.

Marie's abilities are related to water controlled by her broom and a cat-shaped pendant hanging from it. With a simple chant "I call on Undine, by the symbol of the chalice, that which is distilled from all things", which makes her cat pendant shine, she can form a large body of water into a pillar to attack a target, much like Misha Kreutzev though in a very limited scale. She can also freeze the water and turn them into small lances, or with a small amount of water, turn them into little pellet projectiles. [5] In the battle in the Endymion she apparently can use her powers without water.[6] Her powers are most effective with her teammates. Like Mallybath, she seems to have the ability to hide with her element; she can apparently hide underwater an indefinite amount of time. [5]

Her water magic can be used against her however, by Index's Spell Intercept.[5] Like Stiyl, the girls can apparently set up a people-clearing field,[5] and somehow set-up a rune card to display like a camera television.[6]

Character Art DesignsEdit

Kamachi states that he initially she and the others were supposed to be like dolls whose faces could not be seen, but changed his mind after Haimura's designs were "just too cute".[4] According to Haimura Kiyotaka, despite her similarities with Marisa Kirisame of Touhou fame, she was actually designed based on a character from a Sunsoft fighting game, probably referring to Stella from Astra Super Stars.
