Misuzu Misaka is Misaka Mikoto's mother and wife of Misaka Tabigake, and first appeared in volume 9 and again in volume 10, Volume SS and Volume SS2. She is currently studying at a university.
Appearance
Misuzu looks very young for her age. Her youthful appearance leads many people to assume that she is Mikoto's older sister, shocking them once they learn the truth[1].
Relationships

Mikoto often comments her mother acts more like a child than she does. This causes their relationship to be slightly antagonistic, as Misuzu's irresponsible demeanor and childish behavior are the polar opposite of her daughter Mikoto's mature and responsible nature, with the latter regularly and openly shouting "shut up, stupid mother" in public and the former frequently teasing her daughter for her lack of "development" and relationship issues.
Despite this, they do love each other dearly, as seen when Mikoto is willing to go shopping with Misuzu for souvenirs and tells her mother to not fall for scams[2].
Quirks
A drunk Misuzu
Misuzu appears to have a low tolerance for alcohol. While drunk, she has a habit of clinging to young men that she finds attractive, as Touma and Accelerator found out in SS1 when she got drunk and clung onto Accelerator as he called a taxi to take her to her lodgings[3].
Touma ran into her when she refused to get into the taxi and ended up exchanging phone numbers with her.
History
In SS1 she, along with many other parents, want to take their children home due to the worsening political situation after Vento's attack on Academy City. The Board of Directors does not want that, since the children are valuable test subjects. In a worst-case scenario, they are valuable military assets for the city.
The Directors actually go so far as to hire Skill-Out to eliminate her, offering amnesty to Skill-Out if they succeed, but Skill-Out was stopped by Touma and Accelerator.
Before leaving, Misuzu mentions that she feels better leaving her daughter Mikoto in Academy City if there are people like Touma and Accelerator in the city to protect her.
In SS2 it turns out she and Kamijou Shiina (Touma's mother) are friends after meeting at Academy City's Daihasei Sports Festival.

In the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun Daihaseisai-arc counterpart, her role is generally unchanged from the main story, but she was taken hostage alongside Uiharu by an unknown person intent on using her against her daughter in an attempt to learn the location of the Sisters. But they were both saved thanks to Kuroko and Mikoto.
Like her daughter Mikoto, Misuzu is the target of the sincere but excessive "affections" of Shirai Kuroko[4], due to resemblance to Mikoto.

Design Evolution
Misuzu's design remains static throughout the series. Haimura refers to her as an older sister with a refreshing personality.
