Playland Gau

Playland Gau is a video game arcade located in School District 7 of Academy City. It is spacious establishment which features a variety of video games, such as the latest Gekisho fighting game, as well as other coin-operated machines, such as claw cranes and also a vending machine. Students are often seen here playing various games until Academy City's curfew time.

Etymology

Gau means shire or district in German.

During Tessou Tsuzuri's patrol with Yomikawa Aiho, they meet up with Misaka Mikoto, Shirai Kuroko, Uiharu Kazari and Saten Ruiko playing games when the curfew is nearing, they tell them to go home along with Kounoe Haruki who just ignores them and leaves. Tsuzuri would meet Haruki several times afterwards, he later opens up to her after showing him a secret in her favorite game, Gekisho 9. They meet one more time where she is defeated by Haruki using her favorite character, she later escorts him to his house where she tells him that she wants a new Gekisho game. The next day, Tsuzuri discovers that Haruki has transferred to the School District 10 and enrolls in Zassou Academy, a school to prepares people to get into the video game company Weed, the maker of the Gekisho series of video games, much to Tsuzuri's elation.

Playland Gau appears again when Uiharu Kazari treats Haruue Erii to a game of Whac-A-Mole, though she is unable to hit them as she thinks they are cute and hitting them is cruel. They later take pictures together, along with Misaka Mikoto, Shirai Kuroko and Saten Ruiko; Erii later stumbles upon a poster for a fireworks festival, where they all agreed to go.

Trivia

• Many of the video games featured inside Playland Gau can also be seen in the 2nd episode of the Shakugan no Shana anime. This maybe because both Toaru Kagaku no Railgun and Shakugan no Shana anime are produced by J.C.Staff.
