Russia (ロシア Roshia?), also known as the Russian Federation, is the largest country in the world, covering most of northern Asia and part of eastern Europe.
Background

In the early part of the 20th century, the actions of Grigori Rasputin caused a corruption in Russia's government. Following this, certain types of Magic were banned amongst Russia's Magic Side, however organizations such as Annihilatus would still use them.[2] Currently, Russia has five main magic cabals.[3]
During the Cold War, Russia (then part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) was in competition with the United States of America to develop esper powers, with both sides pouring money into the research of esper development for military use some time later during the conflict.[4]
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, a number of nuclear warheads, including the Opasnosti, were leaked from Russia and fell into the hands of organizations seeking independence, who swapped the outer shells of some to bypass their security locks. Russia would later hunt down these exchanged warheads, which were officially stated to be dismantled, with the nuclear material reused for reactor fuel, though some were actually kept as reserves.[5]
An Academy City cooperative institution was present in Russia, running the world’s largest shopping mall, but was disbanded following a failed attempt to destroy Academy City and the decapitation of its leaders.[6]
Russia is one of the earliest of the currently increasing number of countries which have a space program.[7][8]

In early July of the current year of the story timeline, Misaka Mikoto was sent to a Russian shopping mall, run by an Academy City cooperative institution, to perform a demonstration and got involved in a series of events due to a plot by the shopping mall's higher-ups to detonate a SoIntse hydrogen bomb in Academy City.[6]

In Siberia, Stiyl Magnus kills 19 people from a magic cabal that killed young children under the belief that life was pain and only death and reincarnation gsve hope.[9]
Tree Diagram Remnant Arc

Russia was one of the countries that launched spacecraft to retrieve the remains of the destroyed Tree Diagram.[7]
World War III Arc

Due to the machinations of Fiamma of the Right and Nikolai Tolstoy, Russia declared war on Academy City, leading to an eleven day conflict between the two factions and their allies.[10][11]
