School Lunch Restaurant

School Lunch Restaurant (学食, Gaku Shoku^?) is a restaurant that can be found in the School District 7 Underground Shopping Center, that literally serves school cafeteria food. It's name, Gaku Shoku, meaning School Cafeteria or a dining hall found in schools, is a reference to the food it serves.

Principles

Due to the fact that Academy City is a city of schools, one can form a restaurant by choosing the best food from the canteens and cafeterias of Academy City. Logically, it should be cheap, however, since it takes cuisines from many schools it is not uncommon for expensive food such as coming from Tokiwadai Middle School to be part of the menu. The food are sorted by school, so besides the contents of the dishes, there are other reasons why these are chosen. For example, one wants to get into a school but couldn't make it, and so they want to eat the food that the school offers.

In the Toaru Majutsu no Index manga adaptation, the waiters and waitresses wear the same uniform as the people in school cafeterias, wearing hairnets, gloves, protective clothing, and a flu mask.

It is first shown during Kamijou Touma, Index, and Kazakiri Hyouka's trip to the Underground Mall, specifically chosen by Hyouka as she has never eaten school cafeteria food before.
