- Misaka Mikoto refers to her nightmares of being buried under a pile of lifeless bodies,[2][3] as well as Misaki's involvement with the 'prototype'.[2][4][5]

- Arachne was a weaver in Greek Mythology who competed against Athena in a weaving contest and was turned into a spider afterwards.[8]
- Valkyries have been associated with swans,[8] among other creatures. One instance of this is in the Völundarkviða, where three valkyries are described as wearing swan garments - a story from which parallels have been drawn to folktales of the swan maiden, a shapeshifter who changes from human to swan form via a swan skin or swan feather garment.
- The Habetrot is a figure associated with the spinning wheel in folklore from Northern England and Lowland Scotland.[8]
- Riméa refers to the Round Table of Arthurian Legends.[9] It supposedly having a rose in its center is referring to the Winchester Round Table, a table at Winchester Castle once considered the genuine article, and that English king Henry VIII Tudor had repainted with the Tudor rose in its center.
- Bakeneko is a type of Japanese yokai. It is a cat that changed into a yokai.[10]
