Souyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index Light Novel Volume 5 is the fifth installment of the Souyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel series. It was released on December 10, 2021.[1] Like the previous volume, a 60 page long preview was released by Book Walker.[2]

It is winter break as Academy City approaches the end of the year.
One morning, Kamijou Touma wakes up to find a mysterious blonde girl in the same blanket as him!? But he can't even focus on that! A special train carrying survivors of the dark side after Operation Handcuffs has crashed and the brutal prisoners have escaped into the city. The battles intensify and the terror of the Dark Side is exposed. But when Kamijou reaches out a helping hand in his ignorance, he ends up helping the especially brutal Hanatsuyu Youen?
Something is a bit different about the dark side as it fights alongside Kamijou. When stupidly kindhearted Kamijou Touma (+ mystery girl Alice) and the extreme darkness cross paths, the story begins!
