- The embassy workers suffering dizziness and buzzing in their ears is a reference to the Havana Syndrome, a real-life occurrence where US and Canadian government workers in Havana, Cuba, reported mysterious feelings of headaches, dizziness, memory loss, sleeplessness, and other problems. There are multiple theories as to the cause, from the plausible to the conspiracy theories, and this volume uses one of them in-story.[2]
