The Strait of Dover or Dover Strait (ドーバー海峡 Dōbā Kaikyō?) is a strait located at the narrowest part of the English Channel which separates the United Kingdom from continental Europe. The Channel Tunnel operated by Eurotunnel is located directly under the strait.
As the border between two nations with different religious influences, the Anglican Church for the United Kingdom and the Roman Catholic Church for France and much of Europe, the Strait of Dover is the site of several magic side events in the Toaru Majutsu no Index universe.
Background[]
Princess Villian hostage crisis[]

10 years prior to the start of the story's first year, Princess Villian in her Traveling Fortress was abducted by the Spanish Astrological Sect near the French side of the Strait of Dover. Due to political complications involving the British Royal Family itself, the Knights of England could only camp at the English side of the strait and watch the French battle the sect. William Orwell, as a mercenary and not subject to the politics between Britain's major factions, went out on his own to save the princess, ending the crisis.[1]

After stealing the Necronomicon from the British Library, Arlands Darkstreet of the magic cabal Dusk Waiting to Awaken performed a ceremony on an ocean salvaging terminal in the strait to summon the sunken city R'lyeh.[2] The ceremony was thwarted by the Amakusas in their attempt to clear their name after being framed by the magic cabal.[2]
British Royal Family Arc[]

The Eurotunnel is attacked by France at the behest of the Roman Catholic Church that is now under the control of Fiamma of the Right. Because of hard evidence that implicates France in the attack, it gives reason for Carissa to threaten France and take control of the country, which would later be known as the British Halloween.[3]
The Strait of Dover is later subject to a confrontation during the coup between France and the United Kingdom. Princess Carissa, dispatches a destroyer equipped with the Bunker Cluster missiles to the strait to threaten France. The French also had a nuclear submarine hidden in the strait with a nuclear missile aimed at London, which Carissa proceeded to sink while speaking to the French president in the aftermath of the Battle of Folkestone.[4]
The submarine-type mobile fortresses, Selkie Aquarium, are also underwater in Dover, and later participate in the opening bombardment of the Battle of Buckingham Palace, along with the Coven Compass.[5] A couple of the Selkie Aquariums also engage the Knights faction and the Royal Navy, though it is unconfirmed if this also occurred in Dover Strait.[5] Later, the destroyer Wimbledon is ordered by Carissa to fire on Buckingham Palace during the battle using a cruise missle equipped with a Bunker Cluster warhead. It destroys the already damaged Buckingham Palace as result.[6] It later fires a second one after the first under Carissa's orders but it is stopped through magic by the arrival of the Knight Leader.[7] Later, Carissa threatens to have the Wimbledon, among other Bunker Cluster equipped destroyers, to fire 24 missiles loaded with Bunker Cluster warheads. Her attempts to use the destroyers are later stopped by the arrival of Acqua of the Back by destroying the antenna that is used by Carissa for military transmissions.[7]
World War III Arc[]

The Strait of Dover was the site of a battle between the English forces and invading French forces. The surface of the strait's waters were solidified by the invaders using a salt manipulation spell, impeding their enemy's naval capabilities. The arrival of the Mobile Fortress Glastonbury and the power boost to the knights which it enabled, helped turn the tide of the battle in favor of the Anglicans, prompting the Maiden of Versailles to take to the battlefield herself.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14]

Coronzon Arc[]

When the British Commonwealth came under attack from the Crowley's Hazards, a defensive line was formed at the Strait of Dover to repel the army attempting to secure the shortest route from the continents. The defenders included members of the Knights of England, witches and external groups affiliated with the Anglicans, including the Amakusas and Agnese Forces, who helped construct many spiritual items used on the defensive line. Though enough Crowley's Hazards were slain to dye the channel's waters red, their numbers overwhelmed the defenders. Shortly after the arrival of the prime Aleister Crowley and Kamijou Touma's group, the Crowley's Hazards reached the coast and soon breached the defensive line.[15][16][17][18]
