  • Given the amount of stuff which needs to be sorted through and organized (and my despondency from not being able to get the October tasklists and logs done, and my lack of progress on my planned tasks), I thought it would be best to start a new thread for discussion and joint-planning on the wiki for late October 2019 onwards, as well as doing some brainstorming between us.

      • As you aware, around two months left for Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T anime. The exact air date and the number of episodes are not confirmed yet.
      • "How to cite references in Wiki Manual of Style" seems to be revised. The most of editors and admins now use "Modern Standard" instead.
      • Accelerator anime is completed months ago, but some of character's article still lack of Necromancer Arc information.
        Loading editor
      • Indeed. We'll keep the countdown concealed until we have a known release date (thanks for seeing to that by the way)
      • Indeed again. A fair bit of the Manual of Style needs revising.
      • We'll need to make a note of these ones and make sure to bring them up to TSP level at the minimum.

I intend to make a large post with an assortment of tasks, plans and problems for consideration a little bit later on today (just need to get a few things in order before then).

Minor question Ollerus; would you be open to the possibility of collaborative sandbox work?

        Loading editor
    • It depends on the situation. What do you want to do with collaborative sandbox?

        Loading editor
    • What I was considering was the possibility of making a new sandbox specifically for some new collaborative work between multiple users. It would be used for when multiple users are working together on the same task, such as assembling information on a particular subject, identifying potential problem areas or methods of approach for a specific item, working on and off of a shared tasklist together etc (tasks for which it might be slightly more convenient to have the stuff assembled and worked on in one place, and for which it might be more difficult to coordinate if done over separate sandboxes).

It is just a possibility which I was considering to perhaps help us further with certain tasks (both in working on them and keeping track).

        Loading editor
    • Most of the stuff I wish to bring up is still being sorted out, but I thought I should mention now one of the projects which I have been planning (which I've been referring to as the Image Information Survey (I2S) in my written notes offline), with preliminary lists and preparations being assembled in my third tasklist sandbox.

The objective is to go through the 9,548 files which have been uploaded to the wiki and identify the images which have information (i.e. a licensing tag and source information mainly, and perhaps a description and purpose) and those which haven't, and then tag the ones which are lacking information with the ImageReqInfo template - allowing us to produce an automatically updated list via WhatLinksHere which were can use to keep track of which images are lacking information.

Obviously, carrying this out manually would take up a large amount of time and effort, which is needed elsewhere, so the plan is to perform a series of automatic sweeps using the Mass Edit function in order to identify and then tag the images in question. There is another problem in doing this as the massive number of edits would clog the Recent Changes list if done with a standard user account - as such, the plan is to carry out the sweeps using a Bot account (edits for which are normally concealed unless specified). As OH&S is occupied at the moment (and as such, OH&S BOT is unavailable), I have been making preparations for my own Bot account (User:Inept Bot) which is being tested but has yet to be flagged.

        Loading editor
    • As long as it can help to improve toaru wikia, I agree with your work.

        Loading editor
    • The preliminary lists are assembled and the bot is now flagged, so all that remains is to finalize the sweep plans so that it will function properly and then it should be ready to go.

Another thing which I'm carrying out at the moment is the cleaning up and reorganization of my sandboxes, which have grown quite disorganized overall, so that they are used more efficiently. I've been meaning to carry out a spring clean for quite a while, but since it is Autumn it'll be more of a leaf sweep.

Most of the other stuff I had meant to bring up will have to wait a little longer given the late hour over here, but I'll bring these two up now:

      • I was thinking about preparing a Featured Article for when Railgun T is underway. With regards to the subject, aside from articles about subjects covered in the series (plenty to choose from), I was also considering subjects which are connected to the events of the series but not actually covered, in a similar way to the prewar conference between the Anglican and Russian Churches, which was connected to the events covered in Index III but not itself covered. I was thinking that if stuff concerning Railgun SS1 isn't covered (hopefully it will), we could possibly choose a subject connected to it (given Xochitl's role in the Daihaseisai Arc), providing a bit of background.
      • You may well have seen the message from Community Central a week ago, leading to blog post with a few early details on the 'Unified Community Platform' which is being implemented next year. One of the things with this is that the Forums are being retired, and due to the fact that they are connected to the same coding section as Forums, Message Walls and Comments are going to have to be switched to a new system. This is part of the reason why I had the database dump file for the wiki updated - so information was saved in the event of problems resulting from the transfer and potential loss.

    • Still getting stuff together, but I've just seen a trailer for a Gremlin event on Imaginary Fest - by the looks of it, we might have voices for Thor and Marian soon.

    • Ooooh

        Loading editor
    • Cool!

By the way, I'll create the Railgun manga special chapter for preview or announcement soon, but I'm not sure what the title should be. For example, Endymion preview chapter released between chapter 56 and 57.

      • "Toaru Kagaku no Railgun Manga Chapter 056.5"
      • "Toaru Kagaku no Railgun Manga Special Chapter: Miracle of Endymion Preview"

The former is simple, but most of preview/announcement chapter isn't part of specific story arcs. The latter is glanceable, but some chapter may have really long name and it does not fit to "chapter title consistency".

        Loading editor
    • Thinking.

      Two minor things:

      • I've just thought of something - now that the bot is operational, we can use a sweep from it to identify the infoboxes needing space tweaks (via WhatLinksHere) and old-style Wikipedia links.
      • Just so you know, Herald mentioned a while ago that he was planning to make another wiki for Imaginary Fest (in detail), but I haven't seen any progress on that front yet. We can still continue our own efforts on the subject here.

Edit: Have resumed thinking on the chapter matter following that earlier distraction.

        Loading editor
    • Going offline for a bit to sort out some stuff on paper. In the meantime, can anyone think of any image-related tasks (other than the I2S) which we need to do, to add to the list?

Edit (25/10/2019): Sorry for being away for most of the day, had to do some work outside (including some leaf sweeping). With regards to the I2S, I'm planning to bring the sweep plan up here for review at some point soon.

        Loading editor
    • One minor thing:

        Loading editor
    • By the sound of it, it probably would have been a set of guidelines for penalties when rules have been broken. It might have been part of the original starting template for the Manual of Style when the wiki was created or it might have been intended to be made but ended up not being written.

With regards to the special chapters that were brought up earlier, I think we should keep them under their current names for the time being.

With regards to images, any tasks which you can think of which need to go on the tasklist? Aside from ideas for images we might need, I'm also going to be putting on images we have already for assessment (e.g. close duplicates, multiple candidates for a certain use, possible deletions etc). I'll be bringing up the I2S sweep plan in a little bit.

Edit: How does the first stage of the I2S plan look so far?

        Loading editor
    • Looks good to me.

For the special chapters, if you don't like the name, feel free to change them.

For Infraction Policy, I think that it would be better to remove the red link.

        Loading editor
    • Can you think of any ways in which images might slip through the net?

With regards to the special chapters, I'm fine with them remaining as they are. It wasn't really a matter of dislike, more one of uncertainty.

        Loading editor
    • Had a word from Herald earlier - the Toaru IF wiki project is off for the time being.

New information should be emerging from Wednesday onwards, from the Gremlin IF event and the Accelerator anime BD/DVD Volume 1 release (Bio-Hacker Arc and OST).

Edit: Planning to compile a few lists from the WhatLinksHere pages to aid in bot operation (e.g. Characters articles via the Character Infobox, Episodes via Episode Infobox, novel/manga chapters etc). Aside from the previous sweep ideas, does anyone have any suggestions for potential bot jobs?

        Loading editor
    • Part 1 of Bio-Hacker Arc is released today. It has not been fully translated yet. Are you going to create new thread for that as usual? The actual name for "Girl in the Dress" is revealed in part 1 of the story.

        Loading editor
    • Not sure at the moment - I've mostly been making them for the main volumes rather than the BD/DVD bonus volumes, but it might be different this time depending on the size.

Speaking of the girl in the dress, could I ask you a favour? If it isn't inconvenient, could you track down the novel/manga chapter/episode etc articles where we've had an unnamed characters known by a similar nickname/epithet/reference, and check/record the manner in which they've been recorded in the Characters sections for the ones released prior to their name being revealed?

On an unrelated note, here's the latest image tasklist log entry (done enough to be displayed but still unfinished - for one thing, it doesn't have the plan of action for the sweeps). I'm planning to begin the automatic sweeps for the Image Information Survey on November 1st (providing no flaws have been found in the plan).

      • Hokaze Junko: Name revealed in Astral Buddy Ch1 (April 26, 2017). She is known as either Ringlet curl girl or Drill hair girl. Actual name added to the article on April 27, 2017. (Before translation completed)
      • Yobou Banka: Name revealed in Railgun Ch82 (January 27, 2016). He is known as Boy with goggles. Actual name added to the article on same day. (Before translation completed)

    • The chapter/episode articles in which they've appeared are items of interest. Specifically, the Character sections they've been listed in prior to their names being revealed. Some of them have been left as they are, some have since been converted to their actual name without anything else and others have a note attached to them to indicate the situation. Given that another similar case has arisen, it seems a good time to get a good grasp of the overall situation.

    • Have completed a modified sweep plan for the Image Information Survey and added it to the section on the tasklist, ahead of the planned start tomorrow. Before then, can anyone see any flaws in the plan?

Edit: Initiating the first stage. Please let me know if any problems are noticed.

        Loading editor
    • Have reached the third stage of the first batch (out of 28), with a number of snags cropping up along the way. Oversights aside, more streamlining and sorting out will probably be needed - log page here.

Any ideas or overlooked oversights from the sweeps?

(Note: I'm going to take a quick break to recover before continuing with the project)

        Loading editor
    • The countdown has been updated and made visible on the front page. It will be updated further once we know the exact time.

At some point soon, I'm going to tackle a task I've been meaning to do for several months now, perhaps during a break period between the sweeps of the image surveying project - dealing with the excessive images for Sogiita Gunha, many uploaded by a certain fan of his (who I haven't contacted yet but intend to warn in due course). I have assembled most of the images concerned (if there are any missing, please let me know) and will be deciding which will be deleted and which will remain within the next few days. If anyone (besides the perpetrator) has any thoughts on the matter and how it should be tackled (e.g. opinions as to which images should be saved and which should be purged), please share them as soon as possible.

P.S. Running a test sweep on all Main pages to see how long it takes.

        Loading editor
    • Thanks. The first episode of Railgun T will premiere on AT-X at 10pm JST.

        Loading editor
    • The countdown has been updated with the time. It will be updated once the time arrives to make the first episode article.

The test sweep has reached 'S-' after an hour.

Any thoughts on the three matters, Ollerus?

        Loading editor
    • Beside uploading excessive amount of Gunha's image, that user has also been warned several times about counter-productive editing of the article "Sogiita Gunha". I think that fan-made colorations of official artwork should be removed from the wikia. Gunha's profile picture seems okay for me.

        Loading editor
    • Via the edits and locks yes, though not through a direct message to their wall. The fan-colorations are definitely going and the ones with scanslation text are getting clipped. I was thinking about switching out the Puzzdex infobox image for the non-card one.

The test sweep across all Main pages (tagging the old [[Wikipedia: links) took just over 90 minutes to complete. One minor thing I noticed while quick-processing the results, which I'll note down here - on some of the music pages (Archive songs mainly), there appear to be some links in the infobox which have had their colours changed, however they are now darkly colored over the black part of the infobox.

With regards to the image surveying, since tomorrow will probably leave me a bit worn out, I'll resume work on the project on Tuesday. In the meantime, I'll have a few more quick looks of the log and the images for any more oversights and ways to improve the plan (please let me know if you see any).

For the rest of tonight, I think I'll do a bit more draft work and a few of the less tiring tasks...

The Lord Reader wrote: I think Leader and Ghost Girl also count?

Indeed, we should check the chapters for them as well.

Thanks. Have found some videos we can use for side story information references.

Edit: Had another idea for shared work besides an open sandbox - a shared template which we can place on our sandboxes if we wish to monitor or work on the subject (e.g. for something like a table where we assemble info on items, such as examples for a high volume subject, translations, game events in the cases such as Toaru IF etc).

        Loading editor
    • Have found IF event story videos.

        Loading editor
    • Good job Ollerus. Having reference videos for both the sidestories and special events should help us considerably. I'm going to get SD4 (Shared Draft 4) ready for the Toaru IF joint work. Also going to check and deal with the duplicate videos. SD1 & SD2 are going to be used for some great big tables of terms and translations.

On an unrelated note, I'm thinking about adding a few more items to the Did you know from the most recent bits of the story.

Edit (07/11/2019): I'm going to have to focus on offline organizational tasks today. If they are not dealt with, it will be difficult to make further progress.

        Loading editor
    • A bit depressed at the moment, but there are some things that need to be done and conveyed regardless.

With regards to the Image Information Survey, a number of oversights were discovered (e.g. non-standard section headers resulting in added sections being out of place, redirects overlooked during the extracting of the list from AllPages-Files etc), so the planned procedure needs a few changes. Once the changes have been made, I'll present it here so people can look over it to see if there are any problems which have been missed. Even though the plan and the bot had reduced the effort required, the first batch processing was still somewhat tiring, so it might need further streamlining so the remaining twenty-seven batches can be tackled more effectively.

As you know, the first part of the Biohacker Arc has been translated and the Girl in the Dress has been named as Gokusai Kaibi. While it is OK to edit the Biohacker Arc and the character articles, if possible, I would like to hold off on editing the mentions in the character sections of the chapter/episode articles prior to the reveal. Before then, I would like to assemble and process the data from the request I made earlier (Template:Shared Draft 7) - so that the whole matter can be properly recorded and dealt with in one go.

There are a couple of other tasks which I also need help with, due to overload:

      • SD5: Gathering all of the images currently on the wiki featuring the items found on the back covers of the light novel volumes.
      • SD11: Gathering all of the images currently on the wiki which have magic circles in them

Edit: Advance notice - there are two subjects which I wish to bring up for brainstorming at some point; Magic and Academy City.

        Loading editor
    • I'll add images for SD5 and SD11.

        Loading editor
    • Thanks Ollerus.

By the way, the Shared Draft templates are designed so that they can be placed in and edited from any sandbox, so all you need to do to use one is place the template in the desired area of the sandbox (e.g. {{Shared Draft 5}}) and put a link back to the sandbox in the template's top bar, then you are good to go.

        Loading editor
    • Thank you for letting me know. I added every back cover iIlustration in SD5.

    • Currently going through the data logs to make sure I haven't missed things (getting a bit of a headache). Hope to get that procedure revision done as soon as possible.

Just so you know, one of the plans I had in mind for the back cover illustrations was to add them to the gallery sections on their respective volume articles, however the gallery settings would need to be adjusted if the plan is carried out.

P.S. Considering assembling all the stuff on the different crosses featured in the series on SD17.

        Loading editor
    • What do you mean that gallery setting need to be adjusted? Do you mean the position for the gallery section?

Beside that, is it better for the volume articles to separate "Localized Releases" section to the independent article? Toaru franchise is currently published in eight languages (English, French, Italian, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese (Traditional/Simplified)).

        Loading editor
    • The settings of those galleries, as they are at the moment, will crop some of the back cover illustrations items (such as Ascalon).

      Thinking a bit regarding separation.

        Loading editor
    • Ollerus, Lord Reader, would you be up for a brainstorming session at some point this week?

        Loading editor
    • Sure. What's up?

        Loading editor
    • As I mentioned a little while ago, there are several subjects which we will need to tackle at some point (the pages are in need of an overhaul) which have a very wide scope, with a lot of subtopics and overlap between them - so I was thinking we should do some brainstorming on those subjects together, putting everything we can think of on the table, considering all the possibilities and figuring out how best to approach things.

The main two are Academy City and Magic.

Edit: Second guessing regarding an edit to Magic Cabal. Going offline and to bed with a headache.
