    • Happy New Year to you too, Inept!

    • Minor thing which I've recently been thinking about, OH&S. I was wondering if it would be possible to devise a mechanism for automatically extracting information from the fields of infoboxes and the like (as a time-saving measure) on multiple pages. I've done a preliminary search and not been able to find anything, but do you know of any already existing codes/functions which would be capable of carrying this out?

I've started a new joint discussion thread in addition to the individual talk threads. I've also posted a number of tasks there which I need help with. If it isn't inconvenient or troublesome, could you lend me a hand, OH&S?

        Loading editor
    • What you're describing is essentially web scraping; something which at the time of typing is not in my list of skills. I'm also not sure how you'd implement it with the wiki. Essentially you'd be telling the bot or application to read the webpage, look for the html? code which corresponds to the infobox then extract the fields. Its actually pretty complicated despite the simplicity of the task.

Thanks for the heads up about the discussion thread.

        Loading editor
    • Understood regarding the web scraping.

Regarding matters in the joint discussion thread, do you have any thoughts regarding the subject of a new Featured Article for the beginning of Railgun T?

        Loading editor
    • Just so you know OH&S, Ollerus and Herald are in favour of featuring the Daihaseisai article during the first part of Railgun T. As such, Ollerus and I have been gathering Daihaseisai notes in Shared Draft 58 for an article overhaul prior to featuring. Ollerus currently has a cold and I'm using my more limited unit due to computer problems. I anticipate Souyaku V1 initial synopsis soon.

        Loading editor
    • Sorry for not replying. I am in agreement with them as well. And maybe feature Sogiita Gunha late into the season.

        Loading editor
    • Understood. Will continue with Daihaseisai overhaul and featuring preparations.

Regarding Gunha, though that would probably please a certain someone, in part due to their previous actions we'd probably need to do a considerable amount of work to fix the article and get it ready - I'm not sure whether we'd make it for the late arc events in the time available with the other stuff we've got on the go.

        Loading editor
    • True enough.

Also, I've set up the GT1 article.

        Loading editor
    • Thanks. A short synopsis, apparently from a recent Dengeki Bunko magazine article, has surfaced elsewhere. I've been focusing on other areas so I haven't been able to verify it yet.

        Loading editor
    • GT1: Added translation of short summary. Deleted the png textless cover image for GT1 and uploaded a higher resolution jpg image. Also, the page count has been updated to 360 pages on the Dengeki website for some reason.

News: Added recent Kamachi Kazuma Twitter announcements (originally from Dengeki Bunko Magazine).

        Loading editor
    • Thanks.

Do you have your eye on any specific areas for the first part of the broadcast period?

    • I was going to make a page for Comic Anthology Dear. Aside from that, no. I'll take a look tomorrow though.

        Loading editor
    • This one?

By the way, I'm going to be using Template:Shared Draft 25 for Railgun T image tasklists.

P.S. Out of curiosity, what would you say Touma's expression is on the GT cover?

        Loading editor
      • <sips coffee> Yes, that one... ... ...
      • No worries.
      • I would say that Haimura ran out of time.

    • One other image-related thing, Template:Shared Draft 50 is being used to log/gather Railgun T images.

    • I've been working on the Index Project page over at Baka-Tsuki getting it ready for Genesis Testament. I'm also looking to update the unified calendar once GT1 is out and translated. Might need to make a new project page for GT depending on what happens in the next few months.

      ---

I'm heading off for the night. I'm sure the wiki will be well staffed for Railgun T's premiere in a few short moments. When I wake up, I'll see where I can be of use.

        Loading editor
    • Understood. Good night, OH&S.

P.S. Saw some pages from Anthology Dear on the Toaru twitter.

    • Can I ask you a small favour, OH&S? If it is not inconvenient, could you check the arc articles' histories, specifically the infobox area, and verify the usage patterns for ResultE and related fields over the past couple of years? I'm unable to do so at present due to computer problems.

        Loading editor
    • The following story arc articles currently have infoboxes making use of the ResultE field:

I have found the use of that field inconsistent across the above articles. From what I see in the template documentation, the intention for the field is very general; just an end result to the arc. With that being the case, one can stand to reason that all the story arc articles should have that field filled in with a general summary of the arc outcomes.

Not sure what you meant be related fields, though; the rest seem pretty straight forward.

    • Minor thing to bring up but I didn't want to start an admin edit war. I noticed that you changed Railgun T Episode 2 title back to Daihaseisai.

I understand that our fandom has never translated the 'Sai' to festival when referring to the whole event in passing.

On this wiki, both Daihaseisai and Daihasei Festival are used:

I've had Daihasei Festival be the episode title of Index II Episode 8 for a couple of years now so I was expecting the same for the next Railgun episode.

What are your thoughts on the topic?

I can see the confusion but I'm still an advocate for the Festival part to be in the title.

        Loading editor
    • I'll present my thoughts/reasoning as soon as I can, OH&S. Right now, I can't think properly - my head is thumping and I'm feeling a bit ill. Problems with my main computer remain unresolved.

        Loading editor
    • On a separate note, can you see any room for improvement with the monitoring table design in Shared Drafts 33 to 35?

Edit (14/01/2020): Problems resolved for now. Stuff to come.

Edit (15/01/2020): Carrying out catch-up operations. Hope to be done soon.

    • Sufficiently recovered now, so I'm trying to make up for lost time (online and offline).

One of the recent matters I need to deal with is an affiliation request from the GATE wiki. I don't see any problems given previous affiliations, but can you see any reason why we shouldn't accept?

With regards to the matter from earlier, I haven't got all my thoughts and words together yet, but I will say that it has been on my backburner for several years now and I had been considering tackling it recently. I can't remember whether I was aware that I was switching back your edit, but I would not say that there was confusion regarding the subject. From overall circumstances, I advocate Daihaseisai for the title.

        Loading editor
    • 1. I currently have no access to the internet through my PC. So I won't be able to do any edits for a few days.

      2. Honestly, I haven't put too much thought into the affiliation requests and usually just okay them on the spot. I've never even considered negative consequences of affiliations.

      3. Aahh, clash of opinions!! Eh, as long as we come up with simple rules regarding the story arc names, episode titles and one Index manga chapter title, we should be fine.

        Loading editor
    • 1) Understood. On a related note, the problems from earlier might not be as sorted out as I thought, so I might be limited as well.

      Other stuff to follow later.

    • Finally solved the internet issues I was having. Now I can finally watch Railgun T Episode 2.

On a side note, I have finished updating the Unified Calendar for February and will release it when Railgun T Episode 6 comes out.

    • In preparation for the upcoming Genesis Testament and potential licensing of New Testament by Yen Press, I have created a new B-T project page for the third series.

        Loading editor
    • Good to have you back, OH&S. Regarding the BT business, is the plan to transfer the side-stories to the GT project page if NT is licensed?

If it is OK, could you assist me with some of the tasks I've got on the go here at some point soon?

        Loading editor
    • 1. I've put the side stories in a template so I can have them on multiple pages. The GT page already has the sides stories.

      2. Sure. Tell me which ones are a priority.

        Loading editor
    • Thanks very much, OH&S.

These are the tasks which I need assistance with (primarily due to the amount needing to be covered in a short time):

      • As you know, Railgun T Ep1/2 images have been uploaded and a number have already been added to articles. However, a considerable number of the captions for them need fixing due to numerous grammatical errors and other bits. I've assembled a list on Shared Draft 50 - all that needs to be done is to correct the captions themselves.
      • A number of the Shared Drafts have been used for gathering images and information, and a number of those seem to have had most of what can be gathered assembled. However, they need double-checking and it would be good to have a second opinion; SD47 (usages of Notarikon in the series), SD52/SD53/SD54/55 (collecting the images currently on the wiki for recent manga arcs), SD5 (back cover images (fairly sure this one is done)), SD11 (images currently on the wiki with magic circles), SD19 (design images currently on the wiki from Rainbow Spectrum), SD20 (light novel illustrations currently on the wiki) and SD21 (alternative cover images currently on the wiki).
      • Shared Draft 22 is being used to gather the anime design images currently on the wiki - it only has Index III, Endymion and Accelerator images at the moment.
      • There are a number of images temporarily stored on SD25 which need their source and other details verified/added.
      • I'm intending to go over OT9/10 novel/manga chapters again to double-check details and add any points missed to SD58 in preparation for the overhaul to Daihaseisai.

If you are OK with tackling some of these tasks, please let me know which ones you intend to tackle so I can plan my actions according and so that we can accomplish as much progress as possible.

        Loading editor
    • I'll handle the first two dot points for the time being.

In addition, I am currently attempting a better translation of the full summary for GT1 than is currently available. That'll also take some time to do.

        Loading editor
    • Understood. I'll focus on points 4 & 5, and attempt to complete SD7 systematically. Thanks for your help, OH&S.

        Loading editor
    • I fixed the captions in episodes 1 and 2. However I noticed a consistency issue.

How are we referring to the characters in the article? eg. Saten Ruiko as Saten or Ruiko? Misaka seems to be consistently referred to as Mikoto but its not consistent for Uiharu and Saten.

Wasn't the rule we decided on was that firsthand references to the character would be by their given name except in unique circumstances?

What about the Index III and Accelerator episodes? I haven't even kept up with them so I don't know what rule was used.

        Loading editor
    • Activity might be somewhat limited today due to external circumstances. Main machines currently offline/preoccupied. Floor trip-hazard.

No. Name of most common reference in text/on screen except where usage numbers close (e.g. Touma and Kuroko) or conflict (e.g. Touma and Mikoto) special circumstances, so Uiharu and Saten. Carry forward issue.

        Loading editor
    • 1. Understood.

      2. I'll follow for the time being but I swear we decided on something different before. Because if we use name of most common reference, Misaka Mikoto shouldn't be referred as Mikoto because only her mum calls her that. Very confusing.

        Loading editor
    • Well, that is how she is most commonly referred to in text (hence name of most common reference). Plus, she also falls under conflict (what with there being 10,000+ Misakas).

        Loading editor
    • Misaka conflict aside, can I get a more exact definition of what "in text" means? Because I guarantee that the LNs and manga don't use her given name. Likewise with Shirai Kuroko.

        Loading editor
    • In the non-dialogue text of the novels, when she is referred to be a single name, she is almost always referred to as Mikoto.

        Loading editor
    • Sorry for confusion. Will try to be more specific and elaborate in future.

        Loading editor
    • OK. I finally understand the rules and have confirmed for myself in the novels of how the characters are referred to as (at least for Mikoto). I still have a bit of a problem with the consistency of the application of the rule as well as the overall consistency of the rule across all characters but this discussion is something that can be postponed until after Railgun T finishes airing in mid 2020.

        Loading editor
    • OH&S, this is something unrelated which I meant to ask much earlier and I'm sorry for bringing it up quite late, but are you safe for now?

        Loading editor
    • Oh, you mean the bushfires? Safe, yes. That said, this has been the worst summer ever. Even if we aren't in immediate danger to the fires, we still have to deal with constant smoke and haze, temperatures greater than 40°C (104°F) (at one point it was 50°C (122°F) in my suburb) and some unpredictable weather patterns (our state was burning, then rainy, then stormy, then hailing, and also flooding within the span of a single week). Hell, I had internet issues this past week because lightning struck my house and fried the modem.

        Loading editor
    • I'm sorry to hear how things have been for you, OH&S. The previous summers here were not nearly as bad compared to where you are, though the increased heat was quite unpleasant (I dread to think how I'd cope with 50 degrees). It is depressing to think that these trends will likely be continuing the way things are going with the world at the moment.

        Loading editor
    • Its definitely depressing to think about; not like my country's government are paragons of virtue either. Its like we're surrounded by ignorance and stupidity on all sides.

        Loading editor
    • Aye, it's a common feeling.

Moving away from depressing matters for the time being, any specific hopes/expectations for GT1? Or just a general one?

        Loading editor
    • Its hard to believe this but I kinda want a slice of life novel showing Christmas for all significant Academy City residents. And a proper confession from Misaka to Kamijou without Kamachi baiting us. I can dream right?

        Loading editor
    • That would be nice...

Speaking of GT1, can you think of any pre-release stuff which still needs doing or have we done as much as we can prior to more information emerging?

Edit (28/01/2020): A significant offline problem has cropped up. My wiki activity will likely be minimal for a few days.

        Loading editor
    • A few things, OH&S. (My activity is still somewhat limited)

      • Just to be sure, do you agree/disagree with the choice of title for Railgun T Ep4?
      • I'm sure stuff will be added to atwiki and other places soon, but what are your thoughts regarding Nephthys and Niang-Niang's voices and the recent data addition?
      • Just so you know, SD31/99 are being used for GT1 plans in addition to the forum plan thread.
        Loading editor
      • I'm fine with it.
      • Haven't paid too much attention to that. All I know is that have voices and that High Priest has Zouken's voice from the Fate series.
      • Gotcha.
        Loading editor
    • A video was posted for the scene along with preliminary information, however the possibility was raised that the information from that source (which was apparently passed on from there to here) might have got Nephthys and Niang-Niang's voices the wrong way round. (From listening to the audio, I think that it might well be the case)

        Loading editor
    • If that's the case, we can just check their history to see if the voices match.

        Loading editor
    • I've tried listening to the VAs but I'm not 100% sure. I think the voices are right.

        Loading editor
    • Sorry for going off-topic again OH&S, but I was attempting a little slide tweak experiment in SD98, based on GT1's cover, however I've run into a bit of a problem in producing a draft sample to see how it might look. Would you say that the possibility being considered is viable or unviable? (Note: Even if viable, it would remain just a possibility for now)

        Loading editor
    • I guess that comes down to personal preference. Personally I'd say that its unviable as its early days for GT and I have bit of an issue with not just Kamijou's face, but also the positioning and spacing between all of the characters. Not something I'd use to showcase the LNs.

In addition, the dimensions aren't quite right. The background image should be 860px by 450px; or if its bigger, resized or cropped to those dimensions. The image you have is both too small and not the right ratio of dimensions (of which you'd have to crop someone out).

        Loading editor
    • I had a feeling that was the case. I'll discard it.

Edit: I've extracted a full file list for the wiki and I'm carrying out the necessary tasks to restart the Image Information Survey. I'm running a test sweep using the full file list - it has been going for over 3 hours at time of writing.

It tells us that half of the visitors to this wiki are mobile users and only make contact with the mobile page. That is significant and we need to fix up and display our categorization on the mobile front page.

I might get on that next week.

    • OH&S, I'm still limited at the moment but there is a little thing I noticed which I thought I should relay to you. There are apparently a couple of small errors on BT for GT1Ch3Pt12 - the bit concerning the use of metals, the planets and the Sephiroth. Adjusted quote on SD31. If it is OK, could you check it?

    • As an update, I've started working on updating and standardizing all of the light novel and manga references:

I've just been gathering the references up on my PC. I'll start systematically updating them soon starting from the top level media pages.

        Loading editor
    • The external link references?

        Loading editor
    • yeah. Its one of the projects I've just sorta left as is for the past year. It goes hand in hand with updating the manga volume stub pages as well.

        Loading editor
    • Understood.

An update on my present situation - the problem is not resolved, but I have a bit of a wait before the next step in resolving it, so I've got a slight opportunity to do some stuff here.

After finding that the track tags don't interfere with full-length links, I've set my bot to do a sweep through pages and files to locate the remaining full-length Wikipedia and Wikia links, using TrackTag and TrackTag2.

P.S. GT1 will soon be fully processed. Any thoughts on the arc name placeholder? (i.e. given events, do you think we should switch from Christmas Arc to Christmas Eve Arc or not?)?

        Loading editor
    • Understood.

It really depends what happens in the epilogue and next couple of volumes.

Its currently evening of Christmas Eve. So will GT2 continue on right after the cliffhanger in the epilogue? Will Christmas Day be covered? Its all up in the air.

I'd personally say that GT1 should be the Christmas Eve Arc. With the potential for renaming to just Christmas Arc depending on what happens in GT2.

        Loading editor
    • Righto. Three for, no against, so I'll switch it to Christmas Eve Arc.

By the way, how is the mobile front page stuff coming along?

        Loading editor
    • I've added some more (frequently visited and relevant) articles to the slider at the top of the mobile page and taken some out but that's about it.

        Loading editor
    • Top level Media pages have had their LN/manga external references updated and standardized.

A Certain Unified Calendar Version February 2020 is now live on B-T.

        Loading editor
    • OH&S, I carried out an experiment earlier with the TrackTags and confirmed that they don't interfere with link operations if they end up in the link. I'm currently using TrackTags 1, 2 and 3 for locating remaining full-length Wikipedia/Wikia links and TrackTag 5 for keeping track of GT1 arc name placeholder headers. TrackTag4 is still available if you want to do a MassEdit sweep to locate any remaining articles for updating LN/manga external references after the main lot are done (SD57 has a full article list in a form for quick usage with MassEdit).

        Loading editor
    • No worries. I'm keeping track in my own way.

        Loading editor
    • I have updated and standardized all of the external references for all of the manga volumes. I've also addressed all of the manga volume stubs except for the 4-koma anthologies. Now I just need to cover the light novels...

    • Understood, OH&S.

Sorry to bother you, but could you have a look at/keep an eye on DD0's additions for a bit?

        Loading editor
    • I've taken a quick look. Most of his edits are on the chapter summaries for the light novels which I'm not really concerned about. Other articles that were edited have been double checked and corrected if faulty logic was used. The following outstanding edits need to be double checked:

        Loading editor
    • NOTICE: Broadcast of Railgun T Episode 7 has been delayed. Source.

Also, have finished updating external references for Japanese/English light novels/manga.

        Loading editor
    • Out of curiosity OH&S, what are you testing at the moment?

Also, can you think of any possible reason which ">Toaru" or ">Shinyaku" would appear in text besides with references? (I'm considering perhaps doing an auto-sweep with one of the tracking tags to locate some of the remaining unlinked references (and possible the old name ones too))

        Loading editor
      • I was testing the mass edit tool to find and replace using regular expressions. The aim is to convert specific wikia links to the quick links templates. Unfortunately, it didn't work and I need to set things up using AutoWikiBrowser.
      • Potentially. References aren't the only things that use <>. e.g. There are span tags for formatting, u tags for underlining, big/small tags modifying font sizes, gallery tags, div tags, etc, etc, etc.

That said, the majority should not be like that.

        Loading editor
    • Just test find and replace with regex on Template:OH&S Test with AutoWikiBrowser. Looks like it works!

Now I can do more complicated find and replace edits in mass. I tested out find and replace of the type:

      [[Toaru Majutsu no Index Manga Chapter 001]] -> {{qcl|Index|1}}

It did it for Railgun, Accelerator, Astral Buddy, Dark Matter and Virtual-On in one go as well.

I've been working on similar rules for the other manga series, and the other quick links templates so I can update them on all the manga chapter/volume and light novel volume pages. Also anime episode pages.

I also feel this might overlap with whatever you want to do with the references. Both on using regex to locate specific instances of what you're looking for as well as the final formatting of said references.

        Loading editor
    • I'm quite interested in the specifics OH&S, though I'm currently stuck dealing with an offline matter.

If it helps, there is a fairly recent all-page list on Shared Draft 57, in the form used by MassEdit, which I've been using for all-page sweeps.

        Loading editor
    • No problem. Just ran the bot to standardize the presentation of LN chapter links on LN pages to the following format:

      [[{{PAGENAME}}/Chapter ?|Chapter ?]]

Using the above format is simpler compared to using Qcl at least for LN pages; we can still use Qcl for links where the PAGENAME is not the same as the chapter linked.

Also noticed that the regex caught some extra text snippets that I didn't anticipate. They are all fixed now but it just highlights the need for being extra careful with it.

        Loading editor
    • It'd probably be an idea to keep a record of these incidents for the mass sweeps. I didn't record the oversights clearly enough when I did the first batch for the Image Information Survey and now checking it is a bit problematic, so I intend to do it properly when I resume with the second batch.

I'm thinking about carrying out a full sweep tomorrow using two of the Track Tags for the instances of ">Toaru" and ">Shinyaku", and then checking the WLH lists.

        Loading editor
    • I just completed mass edit using AWB and regex to convert outstanding chapter links and volume links on Manga Volume Pages to the Quick Links templates. Pretty happy with how it turned out. :)

        Loading editor
    • Understood, OH&S. I've just dealt with the remaining tagged ">Toaru" instances, with a few oversights noticed (such as instances in the infobox after <br>s). I've lost track of a few things so I'm going to spend some time trying to retrace them.

        Loading editor
    • With Railgun T ep 7 airing this Friday. What should the title for the episode be? I thought the accompanying translated Japanese was the title but should we just leave it as the English title?

        Loading editor
    • To be honest, I'm not sure at the moment.

On a separate note, you may have already seen this OH&S, but Ollerus will be offline from mid-March to around the end of April due to external circumstances.
