"August 10, Part 2" (八月十日② Hachi-gatsu Tōka ②?) is the 19th chapter of the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun manga series, released on February 27, 2009.
Synopsis[]
Misaka Mikoto is confused by Nunotaba Shinobu calling her the "original". Shinobu brings up a rumour about clones of Mikoto that is going around Academy City. Shinobu confirms that she knows about this rumour, but says that Mikoto can't do anything even if she knows. She then explains that she was scattering the cash cards to make people visit places not covered by the camera network in an attempt to stop experiments that are being held in these places. Shinobu starts a fire to get rid of the evidence and leaves. Mikoto rescues the unconscious thugs from the building, but loses track of Shinobu as a result.
Mikoto heads to a nearby phone booth and hacks the student name databank for information about Shinobu: she is famous in the field of biopsychology and used to work at the same place (Higuchi Pharmacology Laboratory 7) where her DNA map was used for research. Still dubious about the cloning story, she decides to infiltrate the laboratory, after first buying and changing into casual clothes with the newly found bank cards.
Using her electrical abilities to bypass security, Mikoto gets into the research center and finds a room that is connected to the electricity but not the local network. A security guard approaches to investigate, though Mikoto gets him to go back by controlling a security robot. The alarm suddenly goes off, so Mikoto makes the robot move around wildly to distract the guard and then flees.
Mikoto walks into a room with a cultivation device ("Large enough to fit a human) and brings up a report about the 'Sisters' on the computer. The report describes a plan to find out how Level 5's are made through cloning, using the DNA that Mikoto was tricked into handing over. Their growth would be accelerated through hormones and such, creating a body equal to Mikoto in just 14 days. However, according to a calculation from the Tree Diagram, the Sisters were not nearly strong enough, the strongest one being only a Level 3. This calculation led to the apparent dissolution of the project, much to the relief of Mikoto. She leaves the facility.
While these events are happening, the guard receives a message from his colleague saying that they have a guest, which is why the alarm went off. A familiar-looking girl approaches and the guard shines his light on her. Another guard arrives and explains that the girl is here to dispose of data from a frozen project, then asks the first guard to guide her to the secret base. They arrive after Mikoto leaves. The guest deletes the data from the computer, revealing herself to be a clone of Mikoto.
