Leap (跳躍 Chōyaku?) is the 115th chapter of the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun manga series, released on May 27th 2019 in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh.

Synopsis[]

Saten continues to make her "testimony" of the incident she was involved in. But this time, another member of Anti-Skill reveals her actual profile as a Level 0 student of Sakugawa Middle School without any involvement with the Dark Side. Additionally, her polygraph results show that whatever she is saying can be dismissed as a middle school student trying to get the attention of the authorities. With investigations of the crime scene still ongoing and being too late at night for any buses back home, Saten is asked to stay within the facility for the night, her belongings aside from her smartphone returned to her. However, due to the protective custody rooms all filled with drunk people arrested for "panic-drinking" amid fears of an upcoming war and rumors of alcohol import stoppages, Saten is sent to the Night Guard Room temporarily.

Without any guards to watch over her, Saten takes the opportunity to look for Uiharu inside the premises of the 2nd Juvenile Hall. On her search for available routes, she stumbles upon the storeroom for salvaged security robots used in the Jailbreak Trial, and soon climbs to the roof where security is more lax. Saten then finds a large gap between her and the inner wall, with a four-storey fall to those who fail the jump. Although nervous about being tested for what she picked up using Indian Poker cards and lacking confidence due to being a Level 0, she used Uiharu's current predicament as a motivator to attempt the jump. Although she fell short, Saten manages to stick to the wall with the help of her sucker gloves she retrieved from the storeroom earlier.

Major Events[]

  • After being dismissed from the interrogation, Saten is allowed to stay for the rest of the night inside the 2nd Juvenile Hall. She takes advantage of this to look for Uiharu inside the premises of the juvenile hall.

Trivia[]

  • The current timeline coincides with the rise of tensions between Academy City and the Roman Catholic Church on the Magic Side. This manifests in a rise of arrests of drunk people who "panic-drink" due to rumors that Academy City will go to war and that there will be a stoppage of alcohol imports.
  • After her phone was shorted out by Leader's chemicals during the rescue from the Type:Giant Centipede robots in the Jailbreak Trial,[1] it appears that she had obtained another smartphone to use, although this time it is confiscated by Anti-Skill.
  • At the meeting of Ogino Kentarou and Fuyukawa Motoi for Railgun Chapter 115, Fuyukawa suggested Saten's birthday to March 10th, but it has not been officially decided yet.[2]

Referbacks[]

  • Saten recalled Frenda's words "Even a Level 0 who's only in the way can be useful if she's willing to throw her life away!!" (足手まといにしかならない無能力者も命を投げ打つ覚悟があるなら立派な戦力って訳よ!!?) before jumping the large gap between her and inner wall.[3]
  • Reports from Anti-Skill at the scene of the clash between Mikoto and Kimi confirm that the dragon summoned by the latter is capable of transforming iron sand into salt, specifically sodium chloride or table salt.[4]
  • Saten learned how to perform an Olympic-level athlete's long jump as an effect of her interest with Indian Poker cards.[5]
  • The security robots in the storehouse included the ones reprogrammed by Mikoto during the Jailbreak Trial. One such security robot, serial number AZ-366-43, was used by Saten to store her heavy ninja sucker gloves.[6]

Quotes[]

  • Saten: "A Level 0 like me might just be in the way... but I can still make a difference if I'm prepared to put my life on the line!" — Her internal monologue as she motivates herself to contribute something to saving Uiharu.
  • Saten: "I honestly don't know what justice really is. When I think about justice... Shirai-san is the first thing to come to mind. She has powerful convictions she refuses to compromise on... and she acts on that belief. Even if her tastes are a little weird. Misaka-san is the same. But... Uiharu is a little different. She looks up to justice... and wants to embody it herself. If they've captured her, it's so they can make her do something bad. I can't let that happen. She works so hard. Gets herself into trouble. And gets hurt. But she still tries to do justice. I CAN'T LET SOMEONE... USE HER FOR EVIL!" — Saten's monologue about how she sees justice and her friends, as well as her conviction to save Uiharu.
