As you have probably gathered, today is the Toaru Majutsu no Index Wiki's 10th birthday. Given that it is a special occasion, I thought we should do something to commemorate it and discussed some ideas with my fellow contributors to that end. Some of them we've been able to finish in time (such as the special anniversary wordmark above, done by Herald of meridian), others aren't quite ready yet, due to current workloads and the short time frame. One of these ideas was a blog message in a similar manner to the one for the 8th anniversary. While I'm probably not the best person to do this and this might not be up to scratch, I'll do my best:
The Toaru Majutsu no Index Wiki was created on September 19th 2009, founded by GalaxyTM and Zekblue, with the main page being made at 03:56 UTC (+1). At that time, the Toaru series was 5 years old, comprising of the original Toaru Majutsu no Index and its spinoff Toaru Kagaku no Railgun. In the Index light novels, with the release of Volume 18 in the summer, the coup d'état in the United Kingdom had just been thwarted and Kamijou Touma had encountered Fiamma of the Right for the first time (events which were animated early this year in Toaru Majutsu no Index III). In the Railgun manga, Misaka Mikoto had discovered her Sisters and was beginning her efforts to save them. The first season of the Toaru Majutsu no Index anime had finished airing earlier in the year, and shortly after the wiki's founding, the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun anime would begin.
10 years later, the Toaru series has grown tremendously, with more than double the number of light novel volumes at the time of the wiki's launch, a multitude of spinoffs and crossovers, three anime series covering over six seasons (soon to be seven, three of which came after a 5 year gap), one movie and numerous specials, various video games and a whole lot more. In that time, the entire second series of the Toaru Majutsu no Index light novels, Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index, started and finished, with 23 main volumes released. With its conclusion, the board has changed quite considerably, and with a third series of light novels on the horizon and the Toaru Project still ongoing, it looks as though Kamachi Kazuma's story (now one of many) will be continuing for quite some time yet.
As the series has grown, the wiki has grown along with it. Earlier this year, the wiki's 3000th article was created with an even greater number of subjects being covered overall, expanding and improving all the time. Of course, this would not have been possible without the many users who have contributed to the wiki and kept it maintained and up to date, some of whom have devoted tremendous amounts of time and effort (and in a few cases, their very souls), have struggled with circumstances within and beyond their control, have stuck with the series and the wiki through thick and thin, and have together dedicated themselves to making the wiki the best that it can be.
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped over the past ten years to make the Toaru Majutsu no Index Wiki what it is today, and best wishes for the future of the series, the wiki and its contributors. Both the series and the wiki have come a long way, but there is still a fair way to go.
