Vidhatri (ヴィダートリ Vuidātori?) is a Transcendent of the Bridge Builders Cabal, introduced in Souyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index.[1][2]
Etymology[]
Vidhātṛ (विधात्री), also transliterated into Vidhatr and Vidhatri, is a Sanskrit term which refers to several things in Indian mythologies and similar belief systems (Hindu and otherwise), including the creator of the Vedas, a name for Brahma (with Vidhathri (विधाथरी) referring to Brahma's consort Saraswati), and a term for fate/destiny.
Appearance[]
Vidhatri has the appearance of a woman of around 25 year old and about 180cm tall, described as looking like a slender model. She has brown skin, black hair and red eyes.[3] She wears a revealing red sari and carries a red leather bag on her back that contains the humanoid ball-joint doll Dhatri.[4]
Personality[]
Vidhatri is a Transcendent that classifies the world based on her own preferences, saving those that meet her preferences.[4]
Background[]
In Indian mythology, Vidhatri is a goddess that lives underground and controls fate via weaving. Paired with and always accompanying the goddess of creation Dhatri, the two freely control the path of the world, and due to their great power, ended up becoming no more than alternate names for top gods such as Brahma and Vishnu, making Vidhatri a symbol that was rearranged for human purposes.[3]
The background of the individual who took on the identity of Vidhatri as a Transcendent of the Bridge Builders Cabal is currently unknown.
Chronology[]

New Year's Arc[]
- Main article: New Year's Arc
Between January 3rd and 4th, Vidhatri participated in the ceremony to summon Christian Rosencreutz, together with her fellow Transcendents, being sent out by Trismegistus at the appropriate points.[1] After the summoned individual struck down the Transcendents at the ritual site and seemingly killed Alice Anotherbible, Vidhatri scattered along with other survivors.[1][5][6][7][3]
On January 6th,[3] after being absent for the battle against "CRC", Vidhatri and other scattered survivors opportunistically returned after learning that Alice was alive again.[3] That night, along with Blodeuwedd and 2nd Saga, she stood against Aradia, Good Old Mary, Mut Thebes and Bologna Succubus on as they were heading to help Kamijou Touma meet with Alice, the three not willing to risk losing their power.[3][8][4] In the ensuing battle, she swiftly defeated Good Old Mary, with her team holding the advantage for much of the battle, being in "resonance" with Alice, but she was defeated by Anna Sprengel in a surprise attack.[3][8][4][9][10]
Abilities[]
As a Transcendent of the Bridge Builders Cabal, Vidhatri is said to be powerful enough to rival the regular magic side on her own under the right circumstances.[11]
Given the cases of the other Transcendents in the cabal,[12][13][14][15] Vidhatri likely possesses a seal that she can release in order to manifest her fullest power.[15]
Dhatri[]
Like her namesake, Vidhatri is accompanied by Dhatri (ダートリ Dātori?) - in her case, a humanoid ball-jointed doll, nearly 2m tall and made of a smooth, hard material. The doll is worn back-to-back, likely via shoulder straps, and when not in use is contained within a rectangular, red leather backpack. It also acts as a loom, with the doll's arms splitting open with a spring-operated mechanism, with various pulleys and latches emerging.[4]
Together, Vidhatri and Dhatri weave a combination of thin white thread and black hair, tangled around the doll's fingers and dancing through the loom mechanism.[4] Similar to how the paired goddesses Vidhatri and Dhatri control fate and creation respectively, weaving the threads of fate together to make the warp and weft of the world - determining all that happens within it, the Transcendent can enact a similarly powerful effect in her immediate surroundings through the weaving of these white and black threads, setting up a small world around her.[4][10]
By intentionally omitting all mention of something, the spell can erase anything she doesn't like from this small world.[10] During her battle with Good Old Mary, Vidhatri was able to spirit away her Tribikos during the brief moment she wasn't looking (with it not manifesting again until Vidhatri was knocked out), and declared that although her opponent could create anything with her alchemy, Vidhatri decided how many different options was included in that 'anything'.[4][10] She also claimed that in this field, she could easily erase Mary's existence by only intentionally omitting all mention of her.[4] While erasing everything that can kill her can preemptively eliminate any threat and keep an enemy from defeating her, she is still vulnerable to threats that don't occur to her and sneak attacks that hit her before she can figure out what is happening.[10]
