Vivana has pink eyes and unruly, long white hair, with her bangs wound up and hardened into two decorative 'horns'. This section requires expansion GT3 - Fear/dismay regarding Handcuffs/bad things happening to her, still willing to risk life to protect a child and some stranger(s)[1] Motivations for research, embarrassment/dismay about how field of research seen, takes her field seriously[1] |
Vivana has a rather timid and awkward personality. She is shown to be quite fearful and often wonders why bad things happen to her.[3] Due to her field of research in torture methods and BDSM materials, Vivana is prone to being embarrassed about how her work is seen and claims that it isn't lewd.[3] However, she still takes her field very seriously and doesn't like when people use makeshift torture tools like whips.[4]
Despite this, Vivana is a very good-natured and helpful individual, as she assisted Hamazura Shiage and Takitsubo Rikou with the latter's condition.[3] Moreover, despite her timidness and concerns during Operation Handcuffs, Vivana is quite selfless and courageous, willing to risk her own life to protect a small child or some strangers.[5]
Background[]
This section requires expansion Field of research and being forced into the dark side[1] |
In the past, Vivana decided to research the field of Japanese torture, which was generally disapproved. Although she intended it to be ordinary research to preserve information, she ended up being shoved in the Dark Side of Academy City.[2][4]
At some point in the past, Vivana lost a lot of money buying a book that turned out to be a forgery made by the counterfeiter Perfect Film.[3]

Operation Handcuffs Arc[]
- Main article: Operation Handcuffs Arc
On December 25th, as Operation Handcuffs was spiralling out of control, a scared Vivana, carrying some of her torture-related possessions, was cornered in an alleyway by a pair of Anti-Skill officers, but a misunderstanding when she grabbed back one of her books coupled with the existent circumstances surrounding Handcuffs caused one of the officers to deem her harmful and move to shoot her. A disagreement and struggle with his fellow officer ensued, resulting in an accidental weapon discharge that killed them both, allowing a dismayed and embarrassed Vivana to escape with her life.[2]
Late that night, she attempted to obtain a fake ID from the counterfeiter Perfect Film in School District 6 (like many others targeted in Handcuffs), only to find him already dead. Running into Hamazura Shiage and Takitsubo Rikou at the counterfeiter's tent, Vivana noticed Takitsubo's condition and applied a moxibustion treatment to relieve it.[3] In return for that (and making use of her Coin of Nicholas), Hamazura took her along as the two fled the scene.[3][6] While the group were blending in at the park and trying to figure out their next course of action, when Hamazura learned he needed a special screwdriver to open up the hard drive he had obtained from Perfect Film's safe, Vivana suggested visiting the Urban Mine, the temporary trash storage area between School District 11 and 23.[6]
Vivana ended up separated from Hamazura and Takitsubo on the underground way to School District 23,[7] and while paused in a moment of indecision, encountered Risako, who was being pursued by a maddened Rakuoka Houfu.[4] Vivana chose to protect the young girl from the murderous Anti-Skill Aggressor and managed to bring him down, but sustained life-threatening injuries in the process.[4] Arriving at her destination later and finding Hamazura and Takitsubo under attack from the android Ladybird, she intervened despite her condition, sealing her fate. Before dying from her injuries, she told Hamazura how he could use her book and possessions to perform moxibustion for Takitsubo.[5]
Post-Handcuffs Arc[]
- Main article: Post-Handcuffs Arc
Vivana was referred to numerous times post-mortem by various individuals on December 29th, during events in the aftermath of Operation Handcuffs,[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15] including the escape of surviving prisoners following the Overhunting crash and the conflict in the Vanishing Tunnel surrounding the captive Risako, whom Vivana had saved at the ultimate cost of her life and whose feelings the ghost of Kihara Hasuu sought to manipulate for his own ends.[9][10][11][12] Having witnessed the events of Operation Handcuffs and Vivana's role in them, Kazakiri Hyouka used her yarai to finish off Kihara Hasuu's ghost, dealing the final blow to the lingering evil in her place.[15]
Abilities[]
This section requires expansion GT3 - Torture expert[1] |
Vivana is an expert in research relating to torture and execution, specifically Japanese torture, and has knowledge of the various methods and implements used in it, as well as how to apply them.[2][3][4][5]
In her clash with the muscular Rakuoka Houfu, Vivana made use of a bamboo sword with the tip broken into multiple pieces, turning a normal safe practice tool into something capable of tearing through flesh, using it to inflict pain to a weak spot as well as knock down a scattershot of rubble. She also used a yarai and rope in order to distribute the weight of her enemy's attack, both to stop it and break the pipe he was using as a weapon. Although her defenses were able to stop the attacks from killing her immediately, she still sustained life-threatening internal injuries.[4] She also used burning incense and the produced smoke in her attempt to stop Ladybird, attempting to shove it in the android's mouth before being blown back.[5]
Along with her knowledge of Japanese torture, Vivana knows how to perform moxibustion, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.[3]
