World War I (第一次世界大戦 Daiichijisekaitaisen?) and World War II (第二次世界大戦 Dainijisekaitaisen?) are two global conflicts which occurred in the first half of the 20th century, the first two classified as world wars before the conflict known as World War III.
Given the circumstances surrounding the two wars, their influence on the events and setting of the Toaru series, and the current amount of information and references connected to them within the story, the information from the series connected to both conflicts will be covered in this single article.

World War I[]
World War I (第一次世界大戦 Daiichijisekaitaisen?), also known as the First World War and contemporarily as the Great War, often abbreviated to WWI or WW1, was the first of the two global conflicts, lasting from 1914 to 1918.

World War II (第二次世界大戦 Dainijisekaitaisen?), also known the Second World War, often abbreviated to WWII or WW2, was the second of the two global conflicts, lasting from 1939 to 1945.

Interim[]
In 1920, following lessons learned during World War I, the British battlecruiser HMS Hood, which would meet its end in a notable naval battle in World War II, was built.[1] Somehow, Aleister Crowley's magical symbols ended up in the ship's construction.[1]

Tokyo was among the many cities around the world that received heavy damage during the war and during the post-war reconstruction period, Aleister Crowley took advantage of the situation to purchase a parcel of land in western Tokyo and establish an scientific and academic institution, in the name of educational and technological recovery, which would become Academy City.[2]
Even in modern times, there are occasional accidents in Europe and Africa involving mines buried during the war.[3]

While explaining about water roads and their use to form a defensive magic circle to protect a city or castle, Tsuchimikado Motoharu mentioned that near the end of the Second World War, the Japanese had intended to link all of their air-raid shelters to create a large water road protection but had failed in their attempt.[4]

In late October, the third global conflict to be called a world war after WWI and WWII, World War III, occurred.[5][6][7]
Toaru Majutsu no Index SS: Agnese's Magic Side Work Experience[]
One of the incidents which the Agnese Forces tackled as part of their work with Necessarius was the summoning of HMS Hood, sunk during World War II, as a ghost ship. The culprit was the elderly Jack Prometeria, whose father served on Hood was one of the few survivors of the sinking, frequently telling the young Jack stories about the ship.[1] Mention was also made to Crowley's influence on the ship, as well as a ceremony conducted by witches in the forests to delay the Third Reich's advance.[1]

When heading for Pearl Harbor with Accelerator, before naming their destination, Roberto Katze indirectly referenced the events of World War II in saying he had a feeling even a Japanese boy like Accelerator would have at least heard of it.[8]

During the events surrounding the Crowley's Hazard invasion of the United Kingdom, the two world wars were referenced multiple times, including a discussion and references to the killer weapons used in them, how Aleister had predicted and witnessed World War I, and in one case, how the intentional sacrifice of the Crowley's Hazards dwarfed the casualties of World War I.[9][10][11]

When Kamijou Touma took shelter for Citrinitas's sandstorm in the USS Iowa museum, the ship's involvement in World War II was briefly noted.[12]
New Year's Eve Arc[]

On December 31st, while retrieving Anna Kingsford's corpse from the wandering treasure keepers' hidden stash in the Miyashita Ark, Aleister mentioned how the ransacking of many occult sanctuaries in World War II had forced them to evacuate their treasures and taught them how national borders were not a trustworthy defense, with the group subsequently only keeping their most dangerous stashes in disguise stashes temporary locations, scattered around the world rather than all gathered in a single location, rarely staying in one place for very long.[13] The May 1940 ceremony which witches had conducted in a freezing forest to curse Germany in was also referenced during explanations regarding witchcraft and bear grease.[14]
New Year's Arc[]

During events on January 4th, as Anna Kingsford was mentioning how the world had become a dangerous place in her absence, it was noted that she lived in the late 1800s before World War I, meaning a world without tanks, aircraft and posion gas.[15]
